New 1/2 mile event.
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:44:20 PM »
We drove over to Clayton, GA last Saturday to attend a 1/2 mile Shoot-Out and it was a blast.
Super facility & very well run. Downside is, as of now only cars are allowed to run but I have talked with the promoter a couple of times and he is working with the insurance company.
He wants bikes to attend but doesn't know if the participation would be good enough to support an event.
They run side by side from either a dead stop or a roll on from cones out about 100' from the starting line. They only give the speeds, no times.

Most of the cars were high end stuff running in the 175-185mph range. A twin turbo Lambo Gallardo broke 200 recently.

Here's a link. You can drop them a line if you'd like to see bikes run.

Here's a couple pictures...

Thanks for starting this thread, Dan.

(I would have, but I am not allowed to start threads,
use the search function, or send and receive PM's and/or email)

There is also a 1/2 mile track at Carrabelle, Florida about 50 miles from
my house that has been in operation for about 18 months, run by the same guys.
This weekend is their 3rd race, and
it was sold-out 6 months ago.

I will be driving two (2) entries there.

NO motorcycles allowed at either track........

Scott,

I'd like to know more about what you're driving down there.

Please post after the event what you were in and what you ran.

Good luck!

Thanks,
Dan

Dan:

I will be pleased to do that.

I don't want to "clutter up" this thread
with a bunch of "non-motorcycle" stuff,
so just get me your email address, and I
will send a report direct to you.

(remember, I'm not allowed to send or receive PM's....)

This meet looks to be well attended,
very low key, supurb weather
( rain chance 0%, low 60 high 75)
but  maybe some serious speeds

Atlanta was fast !

LSR is taking over the hot-rodding world !

Being a car guy too I'd really like to know how you did, I sure wouldn't consider the info cluttering up the thread I started but maybe someone would.

You can contact me at:    igo202@bellsouth.net

That email address is over ten years old and you were there when I made it!!

Feel free to post it, it's LSR based isn't it?

I'd be interested if they allow motorcycles...

Sooooo, I'm digging up this old thread because I just signed up for this 1/2 mile event for Sept 16-17, 2017. They now allow bikes. So bring out your bikes, there are still slots available, $250 one day, $450 for both.

A lot has happened since 2012, but lately I've been piecing together an old Gen 2 ZX10 to race again. I will start a thread about the build soon, but the eventual plan is E85 & spray. For this meet I think it will be stock engine, no spray, just to shake down the chassis and electronics.

I have run with these guys several times
in maybe four (4) different cars.

They seem to be avid about the 1/2 mile,
and put on a pretty good show.

It is not really land speed racing,
in that there are hardly any rules,
and there are basically no classes or records,
so it's a lot like a track day.

They do offer time slips,
and the times are "official" in that they are 3rd party.

Nice for practicing starts, and to keep "up to speed."

Unless things have changed,
there are virtually no "safety rules."

Wish they had been accepting bikes when
my team was active on pavement.........
