GSXR 1000 Turbo build clutch question
« on: January 08, 2013, 11:35:49 PM »
Hi Guys.

I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what the standard clutch will be capable of handling and also if I only do heavy duty clutch springs?

I am building a k4 1000 turbo and aiming for 350 + bhp, but was wondering if I turn the HP down to 250, would the clutch handle it?

I am planning to do a lock up clutch when I have the boost turned up all the way.

Thanx for the reply. Would you recomend any that I can look at?

The bike will be used as a weekend street bike and occasional top end runs.

I got around 230rwhp before the stock clutch decided it had enough. Went to a 2stage lockup&cranked the boost up w/out any issues

Yes in 9 years of Land speed racing I have only used a single stage lock up with heavy springs

I know this was no good for starting out but at 400+hp I have never had a single clutch issue.

I will be trying an MTC 2nd gen this year though to get off the line faster.

A billet basket is good security as well for over 300 hp
Maybe this year?

My GSXR 1000 turbo (8 psi and 254 HP) used 3 HD clutch springs and 3 stock springs and has NEVER slipped in 6 years. You dont need a lockup at 250 hp!

Thanx for the update guys.

Bike is finished preped, so just need to break it in before we start with the turbo build.

If I can ask again... Do I use the stock oil pan?

For weekend use and top end runs a stock oil pan is no problem.

Maybe this year?

My factory clutch has held 245rwhp with heavy springs and lots of miles. I am going to runs stock springs for starters with the single stage.
