99-00 to 02-07 ecu
« on: February 04, 2013, 03:53:51 PM »
Just swapped my bike over to the 02-07 ecu with using my 00 wiring harness. The wright up I found on this site gave me the info for what pins at ecu to swap and move. The pins for the crank sensor #s 36&43 did not need to be swapped. I swapped them and the bike did not run. After going thru wiring diagrams I found out that they were in the right location b4 swapping. Not sure if this is any help to any1 but just putting it out there. The wiring diagram showed a white wire at pin 36 and green with black tracer at pin 43. Something to check b4 swapping if any 1 is swapping in the future to this setup.

Yes the 00 cluster works. I am still using mine. Double check the pins that you swapped to make sure that you put them in the right location. I did not put in right cavity at first and had gauge cluster issues. Went thru and found out pins were not right fixed and all was good.

Sorry for asking this question but I've got to know this! What benefit is there in going from the 99-01 ECU to the 02-07 ECU? Also, are there any real differences between the ECUs from 99-01? Thanks.

99-01 is a 16 bit ecu and 02-07 is a 32 bit ecu. I am using the 02-07 ecu for tuning purposes without buying a power commander or bazzaz.

The benefits of swapping from a 16bit to a 32bit is greatly enhanced tune ability. The 16bit ecu can't really be software hacked, however hacking the 32Bit is common. However, not every dyno tuner has the ability and knowledge to hack and flash your new 32Bit ECU and ditch the Power Commander. Interview the tuner first to make sure he really knows his shit. If you would like more enhanced tune features swap in the ECU, wiring harness, and dash (and possibly other stuff) from a Gen 2. I have not done this myself yet, but have friends who have, and they love it.

As an example, I had Jim at JT&S performance do my dyno work. When I swapped to a 32 bit and ditched the Power Commander 5, I gained about 8hp if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps.
