1/2 mile gearing?
« on: February 11, 2013, 10:47:41 PM »
I'm considering doing the Houston half mile this year, seeing as I'm enjoying track racing more and more these days. I'd like to know what size sprocket I should stick on the back to get me through the traps somewhere in the top of 6th in the 1/2 mile.

I already trap 165 in the 1/4 with 18/44, but I'm sure that would run out of gear well before the 1/2.

Also what speed would that net me?

TURBOLAG: The split second the other guy thinks hes winning.

19/44 at 11000rpm would put you at 201mph. 18/44@11000=191.

Check out gearingcommander.com. You can use that site to enter gear combos and fpms to estimate speeds. It even estimates needed chain links for the sprockets. It will also load your stock gearing.

18/40 would probably be the easier change for you just swapping the rear if you have enough chain adjustment.

If not, 19/41-42 or so if you want 200+..
