Do you have to use an offset crank? The advertisement says with a stock crank it makes it a 1464.....I would like to go bigger and run all motor but I want to use my current stock pile of parts. I have a race prepped 5mm crank and stock length Carrillo's on the shelf. The bottom end is done. I just need a cylinder and piston set.

Kev :tu:

At least some of the Muzzy items use offset pistons. The pistons are not symmetrical and the pin machining is biased to one side to move the piston a bit.
So no offset crank or yes you need the 5mm offset crank to go with the offset pistons?
I've used several Muzzy offset blocks with great results. That being said, I ALWAYS run them with an offset crank and custom pistons.

Like John said, if you're just slapping parts together you will have plenty of problems to worry about.
That might be your answer. I see that certain builder's have advertised and posted on boards about the 1464 block i.e. RCs Cycle Concepts, etc give them a ring see what they say cheaper than buying new parts

Never mind.....I'll just stick with what i know.....Small motor and nitrous. I really don't have the time for experiments right now. Plus all this stuff will be for sale if I get this new job. Thanks for the advise guys!

Kev

Don't let Ryan O blow up his pig with the ECU's I sent to him, but make sure he tries out teh limtier to be sure it did in fact extend. One that I did a while back for Fred didn't seem to "take".

I'll try my best not to blow the pig up.

No promises though.

The 1580 all worked out really good in the end. The pistons were since coated.

Glen71 finished the build after I stuffed it up the first 3 times myself & did brilliant job for me as well as an outstanding tuning job. :tu:

What the heck are those things?  Lol. You need to get them from wiseco, they sell every mm bore there is.  Usually the chamfer on the block is enough just to COCK piston up then in with just your fingers.. Your done in 2 mins, if no chamfer or on a 1000 I use the tapered wiseco ones or Arp brands.  Best 30$ tool there is.

If you are wondering why Wiseco makes them tools, just try to install Wiseco 85mm pistons and rings without it, prepare to have spare nerves and a week to do it

:? Probably a dumb question, but how do you get em out once the piston & rings are in the cylinder bores ? Do they split down the sides ?

I can install the 85 with no issue with no comp ring tool. It's easy.. just tilt the open end of gap down then rock piston up closing the ring gap, then do the other ring that has the gap 180 from the top ring.   When ur at the oil control ring center it with bore and light tap it down. It takes a certain touch to have confidence to do.  The blocks should have to have a chamfer on the bottom to work.  I use them on 1000 and busa on certain builds that I need to use it. If using on a busa you just figure all you base thickness out first and install in the block with the rods attached already then mount block ,then flip it over and install the crank and seal cases.  But obviously you mo k it up first and get deck correct first.

This is how I do it :tu:
