[Gen I] Shock Travel?

I have to relocate some parts on a project bike and am trying to understand how much the rear shock travels, both fore-and-aft and up-and-down.  It doesn't look like it's very much... Can anyone help me understand this?   :?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear: I mean at the very top of the shock, by the battery box.
