Drayson breaks EV Landpseed record
« on: June 27, 2013, 09:54:56 AM »
The Drayson Racing Technologies Lola B12/69 EV electric race car hit a top speed of 204.2 mph at a racetrack at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire, England, smashing the previous record of 175 mph set by Battery Box General Electric in 1974. Fittingly, Lord Paul Drayson was behind the wheel.

Pretty cool.

Larry McBride went 6.94@ 201.37 in the 1/4 in an electric vehicle built by a group of guys and a rebuilt fork lift motor.

I would assume, with a speed ratio change and a trip to Loring, the new "world record for an electric vehicle" would be pretty much shattered, especially if they put some Bill Warner style bodywork on it.

Given 20% (or less) of the resources that were put into that car, I would bet a 250mph motorcycle could be built.

Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

Records for electric vehicles are listed here, page 16.

http://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/basicpage/file/Category%20A_0.pdf

The Lawless racing bike that McBride rode would likely fit into the 1102-2205lb class that the car was competing under for the 1Mile  flying start distance. Hard to find category rules on teh FIA site.
The 1/4 mile standing start record is only 62.5mph.

Still cool to see fast electric cars.

I wasn't aware of Paul Thede on the motorcycle.
I saw the Buckeye Bullet. That was listed on the FIA list in a higher weight class.

Lightning is faster by quite a margin than the gas bikes and almost as fast as the cars!  This will be very interesting...
BTW, the motor used in the Rocket (the bike McBride rode) would never last a mile.  Those motors are built for 10 second type runs before they start melting due to the insane current levels they are using.
