I am back. The salt sucked, I couldn't get over 200mph. I made one run partial streamlined 200mph. slippin and sliding. I knew I was not going to get the 225 record I was trying for so I took the fairing off and ran naked. I think I made four or five run and one was 199+ and all the rest were 200. Two na bikes were hashing it out for top speed of the meet, one was a 1000cc and I am not sure about the other. That kind of says it all. There were several big hp turbo bikes and several big na bikes and none did any good. Well we are taking the 1350 with the catalyst lsr APS body on it to World of Speed. I hope the salt is better for Johnny Cheese riding it.

I think JOHN LEVIE  on
the SCOTT GUTHRIE RACING Bike
was fastest sit-on bike of the meet
with 225 mph (exit).

There were two 1000cc NA bikes with
speeds in th3 222-223 mph range.

The fastest overall was the
"Flugerville special" lay-down bike.

Congrats to John Levie and you too Scott  :thumb:

It looks like John also got his "red hat" - for riding a 1650 gas sidecar to 218mph!  A mere 43 mph on the previous record. WTFG John, that's a fast sidecar.

Thank you Dean !

John did a good job with that sidecar
(The team now has three [3] sidecars for Bonneville.)

In addition, we had John's dad Allen license up to 193 mph
in the sidecar, so we will have a "spare" rider.

We put Allen on one of the CX650 Turbos', and he
responded by setting four (4) new records for his
rookie meet.

Good job by all.

Good effort to get over 200 in those conditions,

Jarim, just hope it stays dry, Salt is very forgiving here, most times it has rained while we have been here in the last 5 yrs it recovered quickly and racing resumed like a day or so after a good rain, but it sounds like there is more water in the salt profile this year and it will take longer to recover

one of the challenges of the salt

Like Fred, Jennifer and I didn't have much luck out there either. We had power to spare but just couldn't get it to the ground. We couldn't adapt to the conditions. That's what makes Bonneville such a challenge. We'll be back. Hopefully better prepared next time.

Good luck to everyone who's going to be at World of Speed. Wish we were going to be there.

i have mad respect for those doing amazing things on the paved tracks...getting
up to speed in such a relatively short distance...then shutting down right away and
trying to get stopped....

at bonneville alot more distance....but for those pursuing world land speed records...its
one of the very few places to do it.....for the required world record timing trap of a mile or
a kilo....

= coefficient of friction that is about half ) 0.6) or less than that of pavement....and a surface
that changes...alot......a very special challenge to maintain the traction...handling and power after up
to speed( around 2 miles or so)...basically another race beginning once up to speed for another 1-3 miles....

in addition to Ralph Hudson hitting a soft spot and loosing the front end at the 1-3/4 mile mark and crashing....

and at least 40 4 wheel vehicle spins, some at speeds as high as 315 mph...many complete losses....like Johnny
Hotnuts a member here...(the pic of what left is unreal) and also fellow member "Stainless" vehicle on video rolled
at least 16 times at over 250 mph...

also Stoney Fritz crashed this am ,at Bonneville hit a rut before the 3 mile mark.....at SLC University Hosp...7 broken ribs, spleen
at jeapardy, pneumothorax left side, broken scapula, still not cleared by trauma team...

Guys,

Joe 100% nailed it here. 40 spins is crazy. More than I've personally seen at any other meet. By a LOT! I haven't been at it as long as Joe and lot of the guys here but 40 is a lot IMO. Usually you get a few, but not 40.

The conditions were less than ideal for sure. To me that's just part of what makes bonneville so cool. It's not the same from day to day. Let alone meet to meet. You have to be able to adapt. This week we weren't.

Joe, it was good to see Stainless and Jon at the banquet. Stainless was looking a little sore but in good spirits. We were next in line to run when he crashed. We were BS'ing with Jon and the guys in line while Stainless was getting dressed.

Hopefully we will see you back out there soon.

After looking at the run logs I see I made a couple of runs in the mid 180's. I guess I convientley forgot those. :hys: In my rookie year, with an almost stock motor I ran high 180's and a few low 190's and no weight in the swingarm. This is my sixth year of competing at Bonneville and the salt was way worse than any other time. Yeah I need some cheese to go with my whine. :hys:

Fred I just accept it as Bonneville I've been going since 2000 and after last years rain storms I thought nothing could be worst.

Now I just feel its a gamble and better to be there and maybe have good conditions then not be there at all.

I came straight from work in Paupa New Guinea and was really jet legged for the meet.

My other option was not to race this year.

Maybe this year?

Ryan (Osti33) brought up an interesting question at Bonneville.

Generally, it was if there was a MOTORCYCLE man / wife,
or Boyfriend / girlfriend in the Bonneville 200 MPH Club.

Probably the FIRST "pair" was Don Vesco and Marcia Holley
Don joined in 1963, and his "girlfriend" Marcia joined in 1978.

Marcia was the first female in the 200 Club.

The total membership of the 200 MPH club is about 750,
but there are only about two dozen women members.
A very few of those are "motorcycle" women.

There are a number of married couples from the CAR side of the aisle,
but I am unaware of any MOTORCYCLE married couples,
although Andy Sills joined The Club on Friday of the 2013 speed week,
and his wife Ms. Hunter is so very close on a 1000cc bike...

So far, I think that Marcia Holly, Leslie Porterfield,  Brenda Sue  Carver
and Kim Krebs are the only "Motorcycle" Women members of the
Bonneville 200 mph Club.  This is not my specialty area in 200 Club
history, so feel free to correct me....

Scott

Carl, good to see you again. It had been so long I felt like an idiot not recognizing you. I agree better to be there and take your chances on conditions than being at home and hearing about the great track. We will be back at World of Speed.

Andy Sill's BMW ran a best of 222 I think. Andy had the Catalyst LSR fairing. Jim Hoogerhyde had a gxr1000 that was about the same, 222-223, with the same fairings as Ralph Hudson, probably the best aerodynamics out there with the Catalyst a close second.
