I lost a close friend today and I'm still having a hard time processing it. There are so many things bouncing around in my head and so many things to say. I have been around racing my entire life and he was the greatest racer that I have ever known. He looked at things differently than everyone else and this is what put him on that other level. His Mile racing was incredible: 200mph VMax, 1st Busa: 255 mph naked, 278mph faired, 2nd Busa 296MPH & 311 MPH in the 1.5.

I hoped that he would have stopped racing after his first accident but he had a plan and there was no changing his mind. He was ready to be done with racing and wanted to get "The Big Number" in the Mile first. I hoped that he would have done it this past Friday right out of the trailer. He would then sell the bike and be totally focused on operating his next project, the Houston Mile. He already had so many great ideas and things in place to make it the best mile event out there.

I asked him again Friday night if he was ready to move on and he said yes, this thing is too fast and is going to kill me. I regret not being with my friend on his last days here.  :whaa:

Bill's sister asked me to share:

Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W Monroe Street Little Falls New York 13365  viewing Friday 4pm-7pm.  (315) 823-2424 Funeral services at: Holy Family Parish 763 E Main Street, Little Falls, NY Saturday 9:30am     Tommy will you post this or tell people that might want to know, if you think it's appropriate.  Thank you.

I remember years ago the boys and I looking & talking about a V-Max that was getting ready to make some passes at Maxton. Little did we know then how determined Bill was to run some numbers no one dreamed about, not only on the V-Max but later on his 'Busa.

After watching him make history at Loring in '11 he was ready to move on to the magic 300 in the mile. He told me last year up there as soon as he broke 300 in the mile he was gonna retire the 'Busa and concentrate on the V-Max, said he had a wild set of heads to try out!

A 290mph pass was just not going to make it in his eyes!

What a GREAT guy that was truly humble. It was always a joy just to visit with him......he will be sadly missed. I feel so sorry for his family & girlfriend but also to his close friends. He was a wonderful member of our racing family.

Godspeed Bill, may you Rest in Peace.

Tom, VERY nice write up.
I know this has devastated you, and you have articulated what many of us feel.
Thank you. :thumb:

I
am
speechless.

Everyone:
Bob Sellers and Jimmy Lee are in Caribou handling stuff.
Bob and Bill had become very close over the last couple of years and Bob is crushed.
I don't know what we can do to assist Brutha' Bob but please be on the lookout.

Tom,  thank you for the news.  I'm shocked and saddened..........

I just talked to Bill at Wilmington last weekend.  I'll always cherish the time we spent chatting under my umbrella while we waited for the driver's meeting.  He always had time for my questions and was truly one of the finest men I've ever known.

A sad day. I was lucky to have Bill as a friend. I will miss him terribly. Many times, at Bonneville, Bill would come to me, as I was getting ready to run, and offer words of encouragement and sometimes advice.
