Your Thoughts??
« on: October 21, 2013, 10:09:34 AM »
So what would you say caused this?

2007 GSXR 600.

Stock except for:

Knife edge crank
BMC filter
Full Arata pipe
PC 3

Bike is used on the track with 9000km on it. (Not sure how many km is track use)

Shim buckets are in pieces....  I know when this happened that the motor was not over reved. 4th gear, maybe 10 000rpm.

Could it be a cotter that came loose?
Bad workmanship?

Valve probably just broke off.

Check teh crank and rod bearing on that cylinder. If the bearing started to go, the piston could have hit the head / valves and initiated it. Hard to say for sure the chicken and egg at this point if there is some bearing damage. My guess is the bearings are fine and the valve just broke.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

It will buff right out....

( somebody had to say it :) )

It happens now and then. Just ask Nicky Hayden. His engine lasted 4 laps in Malaysia.
I dont know what I am talking about but I do know that I am right :)

I had a wrist pin keeper come loose once but all it did was score the liner.  Your problem is probably down farther.
Ride em if ya got em

The bearings are all fine. Not one mark on them. I also have a feeling that the retainer came loose. Just a very expensive story. The main problem is that this is our 24 hour race bike and the race is in 5 weeks :grn:

Sourcing now for a new engine.....

@ Abusive. We running pump gas 95 oct.

Question: I dont know how much you guys know about 600 and 750's, but Im just gonna put it out there...

I am planning to buy a 750 engine for the extra power. Now I know that the two are the same except for the bore and stroke, whicch means that the 750 engine will bolt right in there. Only question now. Will I be able to use the same ecu? I know that the 600 revs to 16 000, but the 750 only to 14 000.

Can I use romraider and load a 750 map on the 600 ECU??

What else do I have to worry about?

So I bought a 750 engine. Luckily I got the 750 ECU with it, so that a plus point. Installed everything, started it, but cylinder 2 is dead. So back to fault finding....
