Gen 1 Busa overheating
« on: July 12, 2013, 04:42:04 PM »
My Gen 1 Busa is overheating about ten minutes into a ride.  Will start right up once it over heats and doesn't ever shut down. Oil coming from engine but not sure if it's the valve cover or head gasket.  What you think?

The gauge goes all the way up,  light comes on.  Nothing seems to change with the levels of my coolant. If I ride it too long the FI comes on and flashes on my dash.  I turn bike off no problem turning back on.  Can hear valves loud and clear when on.

Is your fan coming on?  Mine heated up after a tour last year and I noticed the fan wasn't working.  Replaced the fuse and all is well.  Its up underneath the handle bars on the left side of the gauges, whatever its called (dash board?).  Mine was spewing coolant though.  If yours has already gotten rid of some coolant (while riding maybe) the overflow tank may not refill (air gap) and thus, you'll overheat every time until the original problem is fixed (and) you top off the coolant.

My fan wasn't coming on at first and then I wired it to start on constantly...bad switch... still overheats and I'm not losing coolant.  I also burped the system and added what I needed.

i think if it were the head gasket it would be blowing coolant into the over bottle or what ever its called, he says " Nothing seems to change with the levels of my coolant "

Hi Senior

I had the same problem, i bleed the coolant for any air locks, changed the water pump, changed the rad fuse, etc etc, in the end it was a faulty Rad, bought a cheap chinese replacement on ebaly and the problem went away. I also then added a second fan to the right hand side of the rad connected direct to the live on a switch so i can have 2 fans running in really hot conditions.

Hmmm, yup this can be easily fixed by hopping up your engine!
Do a 1397, and a Ward head, with some big ass Web cams, Brock exhaust.
Yea, it may not directly fix the overheating problem, but WTF, it will put a smile on your face!
Yea, I know... not much help. :hys:

If your not boiling over the coolant or burning it then the h.g. Should be ok. If your temp gauge is the only thing indicating a overheating issue, maybe the temp switch in the head is bad. A bad cap would make it lose coolant and a water pump would actually make it overheat quickly. Is it pegging it as if you flipped the rocker kill switch up?

If the FI light comes up, you should check the code first.

What is your coolant level in the cooler (not in the tank)? You can check it after removing right fairing and the cooler cap, maybe you just need to refill it there.
