mtc multistage clutch
« on: July 24, 2014, 11:18:48 PM »
What is the on track difference between a gen 1 and a gen 2 multistage from mtc. I'm trying to figure out is the extra 1500 is worth it for me. The bike is a turbo bike making a little over 400 hp.

One is engine driven, one is wheel driven.  If tuned right, there would be no difference in my opinion.  The difference is in the ease of tune and the survivability of your clutch plates.

Thats a good question.  Alot of old school racers swear by the multistage clutch.  The gen2 is newer technology.  Both of them will get the job done.  You just have to know how they both work.  I think the gen2 is is easier to tune straight out of the box.  Thats just my opinion

Which one has the better survivability? I'm having a hard wrapping my head around the whole wheel driven part. Are you able to explain that in more detail?

The MTC 2 will give you the better odds of not smoking all your clutch plates.  It is wheel driven, so that when your clutch is slipping, it is only slipping at a rate comenserate to the speed of your wheel.  The MTC 1 will be slipping at whatever your engine RPM is at because it is engine driven.  It is not a guarantee that you will not burn up clutches, but it does afford you the opportunity to catch a problem (if you can feel it) before everything is toast.

I'm loving all the input. But back to the original question is it worth $$$$$1500 extra???? I know everybody has a opinion I want to hear them before I drop that extra money. I would like to hear what clutch and why. Again thanks! Experience is priceless!
