Decking a block?
« on: August 20, 2014, 09:02:23 PM »
Can I Deck the surface of a Gen 1 block to clean up small imperfections without hurting the nikasil in the bores? I know the cylinders are coated with nikasil but is the surface of the block coated also?

The surface isn't coated, but you have to be careful not to chip the bores.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

Yes you can resurface it.  You need to use a PCD cutter on the machine and "prep" the cylinder before putting it on the machine.  We do them all the time.
