Remember getting "Soul"?  Compared to some of you grumpy old farts, I'm a noob, and I've been here for at least 8 years.  To this day, I still remember how stunned I was when Superdave (NOT Gebhardt!) trolled on me by asking what my "qualifications" were to be posting here.  I was just a new guy who was stoked to be part of it, and I wanted to contribute.     I was knocked over.  Hell, I was scared to even be talking amongst the big dogs.  I'd been lurking for weeks, or maybe months, before I even made a peep.

...also, I think to date, there's been only one guy WHO ALWAYS TYPED LIKE THIS.

It's been an interesting ride so far.   :bike:
Yeah, it made 500 hp at 32 psi.

I agree Joe.  I'm kinda out of touch with the scene these days, but I like to get a heads up here when something is going on.  Cheer on some of the folks that are exceeding their own goals, etc..  I does seem that reports have been declining over time.

In the eight years I have been involved, as  participant(sp) there seems to hav been a steady decline in the number of motorcycle people involved in, pavement, LSR. Bonneville seems to be about the same. When I started going to the Texas Mile the bikes outnumbered the cars. Now I dont think there are twenty bikes there. WTF!!

Fred- I think what's happening is that the events have just grown so much bigger that more and more cars have shown up and made the bike group look even smaller.  I don't remember all that many bikes in Goliad, but overall, there were a lot fewer racers in total.

Look how many names are on just the 1 mile 2-club list now.  Over 200 people.  All the new venues now are spreading out the riders too.  I guess, anyway.

Loring was the one to watch, 1.5 mile , track for me at least to dream about , and well covered, esp when our mates were running,
now with Bill gone and others loosing heart about LSR since then, a big gap on many fronts   :(

Fred, Brenda, JC and Stainless , we will see you on the salt , looking forward to some good runs and catching up
Hope the track is similar to last day of BMST, from what i heard the return road with a weeks compaction will be the WOS main track, no dust, hard and just the right amount of water so the surface lasts

Sounds like we will have a pretty good SH.org turn out at WOS.

Jen, dad, and I will be there friday morning.
It will be nice to see everyone.

Karl, Bullet Bob, Fred, Johnny, Brenda, Stainless, Greg and the rest of Aussies, the Amo family, fireman Jim. I'm sure I'm missing some others.

Yep, should be a good time. Can't wait to catch up with everyone.  :thumb:

I think it's a combination of things.  A lot of people were hit hard by the economy 2008-2012 and many others lost interest after we've lost a few members.  Some just have family and young kids now so they don't have the time they once had.

I personally don't think the Texas Mile is safe for bikes trying to go 220-250+.  There are to many other tracks that are much nicer to run those speeds without the risk.  I'd like to see Houston Mile happen otherwise Wilmington is the only other option I'd consider besides maybe Mojave for the pavement.  I'd love to do Bonneville someday just don't have time for a week+ off of racing at this point in life...someday..

WoW!  I just checked my profile and found that I have been on here for 12 years.  Went back and looked at some of the Maxton post from 2003.. folks, just 11 years ago 225 MPH was a huge speed to accomplish and the Maxton overall track record was in the 230s.

It's not only motorcycle LSR that is seeing a decline, it is all forms of racing.  How many drag racing organizations and events have fallen by the wayside?  I guess it is easier to race on the Internet or Facebook than in real life.

I'm excited for all the folks going to WOS (also jealous, but I will try to enjoy it through you) - hoping for good conditions and luck.

I just checked, and I've been on this board for over 10 years, wow. Lots of bikes, street, strip, standing-mile, flying mile. NA, nitrous, turbos. Funny part is I got my first Hayabusa last year :)

Here's a pic from 2006, at the Prostar World Finals.

Anyone have pics form the old days?

Dean

This was from March 2002 when we got in the Two Club at Maxton. The boys haven't gotten old but father time is starting to catch up with me!!
We've had a LOT of great memories from Maxton, Loring, Texas & Ohio not to mention drag racing up and down the east coast.

Great picture Dean, that old ZRX of yours has cost me a lot of $$$   :D

Wow,  it's been a long time.   nearly 11 years.  a brief stint on L.A.B. before that.   I think Dennis had gsxr1000.org before then even.  I remember something of the sort around the 2nd time I found the internet.   Fuck,  that was even on Netscape.

Still remember Russ becoming famous while kissing the pavement at TX.   Glad he came out OK.

There was a time when I was in the top 50 on the fastest list.  My how that was destroyed,  I think I'm about at the bottom now.

My bike has been 3 different colors and it's been in my possession for 10 years now.  I rode it to work today,  my students are still beside themselves that it's got a little turbo and thanks to the poor influence on this site makes way more HP than any commuter bike aught to.

I started coming here to learn about dragracing,  tried some LSR, and now I teach new people on road courses.  All with the same ride, though I did get a sharper tool for actually trying to go a bit faster at track days.

Monday I'm going to finally follow through with something I told Walt and or Russ I would do years ago.   I'm going to make a lap or two at Road America on my busa.  Just mainly to say I did.   1 can of C16 later I hope it holds up.  I haven't cranked the boost past 10 in years.   Then I'll be switching back to my other track bike.

Jason said Netscape.

The last time I raced, my bike was packed full of borrowed parts, some from Jason.  It's good to be part of this good community, despite my occasional foolish remark.  I wouldn't know what a TRE is to this day without the shared knowledge found here.   :D

Another OG here..  I was on the first .org before Dennis/flipper took over, then migrated here.
I've owned my original Busa I bought new in Feb 00'...  14.5 years I've had that turd..

I've had a lot of great times/memories/friends from this site and its predecessor...and LABs..I basically grew up on this forum..(and the others)

Definitely seems like a loss of interest in LSR and busas in general the last 2-3 years...  I know I haven't done much with mine in the last 3 years.. But I've still got her, will never sell her and she still runs like a raped ape...I don't have near as much interest in motorcycles these days but..  Its cool to pop in here from time to time and check on the rest of you old farts. :D

Looks like I came on in Sept of 05

Needed another turbo site when the first one I was on went down.

Never did turbo a busa though, but I do have 3 gixxers turboed up.

I've never had much success juggling family and racing

Russ was the one who I talked to before coming to Texas in 06 as I wanted to know the facts on what the surface and conditions were like before I went.
Maybe this year?

...and then you went and ran 130.xxx mph right there in front of me.

Edit:  Now that I've scratched my head for a few days, perhaps it was 230.xxx that you ran.   ...where's my Ghinko Biloba?  I forgot where I put it....
