good battery, busa sputters, doesnt start, gift for you?
« on: October 05, 2014, 08:53:00 PM »
Hey all.

I've got a new to me 2006 suzuki hayabusa 1300. bought a new battery day i bought it as dude who sold it said thats ALL it needs. Bike was starting to sputter so i checked battery on multimeter, which i was new to, and saw only zero? anyway, hooked battery to tender, showed it as charging, then eventually charged. ran well for one week.

sputtering now, checked it on tender, charged, but eventually it sluggishly tried to fire up but wont. now it turns the headlight and panel lights on when i turn key and ready it, but still just sputtering and sounds like its trying but just wont start. damnit.

LOVE this bike but cant seem to get it going, u know?

And sometimes, when it DOES start, if i give a quick twist of throttle, that twist can kill it or make it sputter. wtf is going on?

at low speeds, its jerky like a lil biyotch.

So, for you to share with me hopefully:

1. what is the issue with a good battery and no longer starting?

2. i have multimeter on 20, DCV setting, the COM and omega are correct, and i hit red to red and black to black what am I doing wrong?

3. when i twist throttle and it kills it or sputters, i want that to stop.

what parts and cost would this cost at a shop?

I got a friend who can do it but just wondering the parts, cost and time of the fix.

If you can help me, shit, I will be SO thankful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to ride b4 snow comes!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I may even mail you a gift for your help!!!!

THANK YOU!

Multi meter suspect if you are seeing zero. You need to check that first. Then when bike is running you should be seeing 14 volts at about 2500 RPM, and 12.5 or better sitting with no huge drop when you hit starter button. These bikes NEED good voltage to start and run well.
And how long was this bike sitting? If it was not running for any length of time I would suspect bad gas and maybe clogged injectors/pump.

Injectors can be cleaned for reasonable cost-- just had some done for 750 racebike. Get a fuel pressure gauge and see if your pump is putting out enough pressure. New spark plugs?

No it's not.  Not a cure all but for a light to medium 'clogging' due to old or bad gas, it can do wonders for dirty injectors and fuel lines.  Certainly the cheapest way to see if that's a fix or not.

Everybody is entitled 2 an opinion....... that's honestly the 1st time I've ever heard anybody say something negative about seafoam. is it the end all be all cure 4 everything?? No..... but I've seen too many people use it including myself 2 doubt that it doesn't work and 4 the price it's kinda hard 2 not give it a try.

Post up some links or some info debunking the "snake oil" commonly referred 2 as seafoam......

Hey all, seafoam is dope. But this issue is beyond that. the busa wont start anymore. My money is on fuel pump, stator, electrical. something. got my friend looking at it at end of October. I will share what it was and cost when the busa gets fixed. thanks all for ur feedback, peace of Christ b with you all.

And 99 known for fuel lines going bad and collapsing. If they have never been replaced I'd look there, surprisingly cheap.

until u have injectors tested before and after using seafoam then u really dont know if it works or not, has any one ever had there injectors tested before and after??

Not that this is the OP's problem but the 'test' before is the poor running of the engine, missing, uneven idle etc.  The 'test' after Seafoam is the (absence) of what the first test indicated...sheesh!  Now, if there's something wrong with the 'E' in the EFI then Seafoam obviously won't help.  My point once again is, Seafoam is about the cheapest way to eliminate dirty or gummed up fuel lines or injectors, short of having them removed and professionally cleaned or rebuilt.

i would put a permanent fuel pressure gage on it, like the ones on turbo bikes, this way if u ever have any running problems u will know right away if its fuel related, did u check for codes??

Take it to the shop man !! ;)

The problem is that everyone is just guessing, it could be a number of things...
Fuel pumps are over $800 for a new one, it could be just filters blocked, or it could be stator that needs replacing if it is not charging.... Guessing is no good, you need to take it to someone that knows what they're doing... That's my advice....

fuel pump from the dealer for my 99 was $200.00   not $800.00
most things on these bikes are very easy to check and test urself with a readilly available manual witch im sure can be found very easily online, shit if i took my bike to the dealer every time i had a problem i would,nt have a house to live in the dealer would own it, get a manual and learn ur bike

$200 is very cheap, maybe is was just the pump they replaced and not the whole assembly... Just the primary filter is $77, the hp filter is nearly 400, and the pump, who knows, but I'm also talking Gen2, prices on Gen1 may differ slightly... It also may have been a cheap Chinese one they installed, you can buy them on fleabay for $35... Just saying.....

it,s not they replaced, its I replaced! and i bought the pump from the dealer that I replaced, absolutely no one works on my bike but me, and there is no need to replace the whole assembly when the filter screens can be cleaned

YOU SAID BIKE RAN WELL FOR ONE WEEK, SOUNDS LIKE THE BATTERY IS'NT CHARGING. WHEN BATTERY GETS LOW BIKE WILL NOT RUN GOOD. CHECK REGULATOR IT MIGHT BE THE CULPRIT.
