Gen 1, base gasket? Yoshi cam timing? nitrous
« on: April 30, 2019, 08:32:20 AM »
I have a 03 stock motor, street riden and drag raced. Recently got yoshi stage1 cams, head studs, and 47lb valve springs. I was planning on spraying a dry 50 shot through the ecu. Curious if it's safe to remove the base gasket and run a .030 head gasket? Is this a common thing to do or will I run into clearance problems? Does it help much bumping up the compression this way or not really? Also looking for ideal cam timing numbers for the yoshi's. I've read 104,106 is a good place. Would timing the cams differently effect the nitrous much? Thanks

IIRC stock head gasket is 30 and thinner Cometic is 18, should have plenty of clearance. Think stock intake is 106 so 104 is a bit low.

What would you recommend for cam timing?

Did you get a Cam Card with your cams?  The cam card will tell you their recommended setting for the cam

Stainless1 Thanks, no I didn't get a card with them.  I bought a used head and they were in it.

Have you heard of anyone having trouble with yoshi cam sprockets moving on the cams? I believe they are crimped and not welded. I was told to weld them.

Have had ones not welded move so hit them with a couple of spot welds.
