Breaking In My 2014
« on: January 30, 2015, 06:53:03 PM »
This is for you guys that have been living and riding Busas for years......Rocket, Dad of Three, etc.

How should I break in this 2014 stocker with the Akropovic full race pipe, Dynojet PCV box and Autotune box in the cool spring weather that will hit here in NC in March/April?

Should I just load the motor in lower to mid gears for a day, park it, and repeat the next day and dump the oil/filter?
I did that on my 2010 and it worked fine.

Or does it have to be ridden like grandma for 1000 miles?

Or, if we put it on a dyno, can it be broken in relatively safely in a day?

Suggestions appreciated.

Opinions please.

A dyno is a great way to breajk one in. Put it in 3rd or 4th, about 2500rpm and nail it. Take it to 8000-8500 rpm. shut it down let it come down on compression. Dom that three or four times and the rings should be seated. You can do the same thing on the street but 8500 in 3rd or 4th is way ovwer the speed limit. A lot

Got it. Thanks.  Maybe I will let Rodney break it in on his dyno and fine tune the PCV map.........I assume he uses a "sniffer" up the pipe.  I would think he could dial it in less than 7-8 pulls.  That's the plan anyways.

Changed my mind............I will do it on the street.   3K-10K WFO under load in 3rd and back off to 3k - repeat.  Then 3K-10K
in 4th WFO under load - repeat.  Do that sequence twice and ride it home and park it for the night.  Repeat next day.
That might give it a good start.  Yes?

Just gotta pray that the po-po do not see me.

I have the ideal solution.  Do what I did when I bought my 06 LE.  I flew to L.A. and rode it back to San Jose on hiway 1.  Varied the speeds and revs, scrubbed in the tires and brakes and really had a great 500 mile (test ride)! :bike: :D
Ride em if ya got em

Do you recognize good tuner from how fast he does the job ? My tuner uses 3-6 hours and many many pulls to tune a busa map. Usually the mileage is better and runs smoother than stock after tuning the ecu.
Oh, it`s a PC, i think it must be faster than tuning the ecu, but there is no vacuum maps, i think.

I received my Brocks Titanium full race system with the 14" carbon "Alien Head" can via UPS today.   I will let the dealer install it.  The PC-V that Brocks sent has already been mapped for their "street" map for the Gen-II with this pipe for 89 octane pump.  They tested and tested and tested some more and came up with three maps for this bike.....a "street map", a "street/strip map" and a "strip map".

Now it is just a matter of installing the exhaust and PC-V, the Heli-bars, the E-K chain and the Vortex alloy sprocket and riding the bike away.

I spoke with Steve for over an hour at Brocks..........very knowledgeable and helpful.  Got a good deal on the system.

Bike will lose 39 lbs over the stock exhaust.

Nest stop are the BST carbon fiber rims for the 2014 with ABS.............I know the tremedous change they make as I ran a set of Dymags about 15 years ago on my 98 ZX9R.  Bike handled like a dream.

The new rims are 1 grand less than the old Dymags...............I might just swing that.

Where there is a will........there may be a way.   :bike:

I just ride, I don't know a darn thing  :bike: Followed the factory guidelines on the '06 and '08 many reliable ( running the piss out of her ) miles.

I've heard the dyno is a great way to do things and very fast. Break your bike in, in a day

Many take it easy for a few miles and then ride it like they stole it. They stand by that.
