2002PC3 on a 2001 Busa
« on: June 10, 2015, 11:44:47 PM »
Bought a PC3 on ebay for my 2001 Busa. The seller claimed it was for a 1999-2007 model. Of course this turns out not to be the case. I have since learned that there are 4 types of PC3s for Busas.

1.1999-2000 with different plug/socket arrangement
2.2001
3.2002-2007
4.2008-2015

I realised it must be the 2002-2007 version when it would not load 2001 maps but will load 2002 maps.

I think the seller was just ignorant, it was not an intentional false description.

Now here is the rub, the PC3 definitely improves the performance of the bike, it seems to work like a charm (I have loaded a map to suit my scorpion pipes and K&N filter) but do I run the risk of damaging the motor. BTW this bike has no O2 sensor, its for the Australian market.

The question is, whats the difference between a 2001 PC3 and a 2002-7 PC3 ?
Read some where that after 2001 the CPU goes from 16 to 32 bit, may have something to do with that ?

If anyone is interested to swap it for a dedicated 2001 version please drop me a line. It is in excellent condition

PS one advantage of the 2002-2007 version is that there are many more maps available.

G'day Todd,

I'm using a PC3 USB (320-411) that was originally for a 2001 with 16-bit ECU.

I've upgraded my 2001 model to a 2002-2007 32-bit ECU and rotor, and am still using the same PC3.

For Gen 1 Busas, there are two wiring harnesses: 1999-2000, and 2001-2007.

Three ECUs: 1999-2000, 2001 and 2002-2007.

Thanks  for the replies, being a tech type of guy, im just wondering what the difference is between the 2001 and 2002/2007 versions. If its just the  16/32 bit issue the compatibility should be ok using the 2002 2007 pc in a 2001 busa, but not visa versa ?
Bbp1busa i am interested in your offer, unable to access my gmail account at the moment.but will do soon.

Also, 1999-2001 models use a rotor with less segments than the 2002-2007 models.
Should have mentioned that difference.

Fitting an 02-07 rotor and ecu to an 01 is a straightforward plug 'n' play.

I haven't tried a 2002-2007 PC3 in my 2001 model but as mine is effectively the same as an 02-07 model in this department, I can't see why it wouldn't work.
