First UK event of season 2015.
« on: March 16, 2015, 04:50:38 PM »
A good turnout for a first event of the year of about 20 riders today for our first UK mile event.
The weather stayed dry but it was cold at 45 degrees F or 7 degrees C with a slight 6 to 9 mph head wind from the East occasionally veering a little to the North.

Jack Frost was the fastest on the day 246.288 mph after a few 230mph runs
Becci Ellis Elvington track record holder was running in a new BDR motor and hit 234.231 mph after a few slower passes closely followed by Les Marsh with several 230 mph runs and a best of 230.285 mph.
A new entry to the 200+ riders was Jason King with a best of 219.755 He is normally a Wheelie competitor but has taken to top speed on Jacks Holeshot bike so he is a new entry.
None of the other turbo or nitrous riders improved on their previous best speeds but another of the Wheelie riders who has also been dabbling with top speed on his small kit Big CC turbo ZX12r Nev Moss managed 200.218 mph so another new entry and he loaned his bike to Barry Brittain who promptly ran a best of 206.072 mph so another new entry.
We had one n/a BMW 1000rr ridden by Nadine Geary that reached 201.497 mph and she is no stranger to 200mph having run tuned Dodge Vipers at Woodbridge a while back over a longer distance so again a new entry.

We also had a jet powered three wheeler at 202.147 mph driven by Richard Brown that is heading for Bonneville later in the year,A 25 year old Norton Rotary Special that ran through at 143.746 mph.
An interesting day ,roll on 14th April for the next event.

WOW 246 mph!!!  Any idea what tyres they're using?  Y rated is as fast of a speed rating we have over here and that's only good for sustained speeds of 300 kph or 186 mph.

246 is fast, very fast, and tyres is spelled t-i-r-e-s, so I know you are on the other side of the Atlantic.

Most popular rubber is Michelin and I use the Power Cup 200/55 as do most of the faster teams.

None of the manufacturers will give any guarantees over 186 mph so ratings dont mean much and people use any of the better manufacturers like Michelin,Metzeler,Pirelli Continental even Dunlop all show up from time to time at our land speed events.
Our sanctioning of tyres is limited to the age and appearance of the rubber so more of a scrutineering issue.

Main thing to remember about tyres is check them after every run and use good quality sealed valve caps so they dont lose pressure during the run.

Which Cup ( A, B, C)?   I'm actually looking for a replacement for my older Power One.

B compound works fine on our tracks in normal temperatures, going to try the A compound if we get a really cold track like last week.
