« on: March 17, 2015, 03:39:18 AM »
Hi,

Can anybody tell me what is the smallest sprocket you can run on the rear on a gen 2 please?

Cheers.

If it is like a Gen 1 then 36 is it.

Hi thanks for reply but they are not the same, that's why I asked.
Think i'll have to try and get a gen 1 wheel to fit into a gen 2 arm or use a gen 1 arm and wheel again.

Cheers.

36 or 35 on the gen 2, i can look what we have on ours tomorrow but we can go one size smaller if we massage the hub to clear the chain

That's really surprising Phil, I hope you are right as that would be great if I could go down to a 36!
I've currently got a 40 on it at the moment and it does look as if I would struggle to go much smaller
than say a 38.
I would appreciate it if you could check for me please.

Cheers.

That's what I would do ~ use a 19 with your 40 .  .  .

19/38 will give the same as 18/36 or if you can fit it under the countershaft cover a 20/40.
Check with Scott Horner if you go with a 20, he should be able to hook you up.

its a 38 right now, the 36 would be very close and would fit if you notched the hub on the wheel

Won't the smaller rear sprocket lend itself to "skipping a tooth" under hard acceleration or engine braking?  Personally, I would opt for the 19 up front, or if it is a turbo, even a 20...............that would allow a larger rear sprocket than a little 36.  The more sprocket surface area you can run in both locations, the less of a chance of skipping under load and both sprockets will likely last longer.  IMO.

If you want smaller  a gen 1 wheel can fit a modified gsx1100 hub, they can fit down to a 30
bearing needs changing and spacer machining od of step  , and shim bearing on spacer for sprocket position

Some aftermarket wheels can fit smaller than a 36t due to the design of their hubs.
