"Roll Racing" and Gearing?
« on: March 23, 2015, 01:07:50 PM »
Greetings!
I had a question regarding my first attempt at a 1/2 mile 'Roll Race'.
The event coming up is www.racewarsaz.com and it's going to be a 1/2 mile race with a rolling 50 mph start. I'm making close to 300 HP. I'm not sure what kind of speeds to expect. Has anyone played this game before?
I'm currently geared for a potential 235ish for the Mojave Magnum (+2 and -1 with 11,500 RPM Redline) but I thought this would be too tall for a rolling 1/2 mile. I was figuring I'd swap sprockets around for more acceleration and still shoot a little high of whatever speed I can get to in this race.
Thanx

That is awesome!  Good luck.  Are they letting the bikes compete with cars?  I roll race my Gen II with 19/42 sprockets.  50mph is perfect for 1st gear although I am turned down to about 280rwhp in 1st.

The real question is what tire are you running??   I have the supersport but I have been hearing people say they hook better with the shinko

Anymore info on the event?  Didn't realize they started letting bikes race on the roll events?

It all depends on your length and how early you have the power come in and if you are break boosting or not?  Lots of setup changes for the roll speeds..

Do you know how they'll establish competitor's speeds as 50mph at the start of the 1/2 mile? Those 'rules' don't say anything about how this is supposed to work.

Separate question, on the dyno what rpm area is your Hahn system making peak horsepower in?

It'd be great if they had dedicated roll racing events for bikes-only. The car roll racing has become very very popular the last few years. It'd be fun for bikes as well. Its NO replacement for 1/4mi runs, but it is fun nonetheless.

Depending on the event it's radar checked, but you are better off having a GPS mounted to watch your speed and brake boost..

I've tried to get bikes in a few events but most of the big events don't want bikes or claim insurance won't allow it.  I know we could do one locally in Houston but most bike guys don't want to pay $300 for a private event to race on a track.

I would bring my bike to a roll event  if they ever allow it. az is far from boston being only a couple weeks away and no time to test. also i would never run a shinko at high speed!!! i just dont trust them over 190mph or for long distance..
