As fast as he was from last to fifth,
a great rider doesn't have to ride like that.

It is easy to remark that Marquez
came from the back of the pack to finish 5th.

IIRC, a few years ago, Rossi started last and came 2nd........

In this particular race remember that Marquez rejoined at the back,
and then passed all the SLOWER riders.

When it came to the hard stuff, he could only catch
and pass Pedrosa - arm pump and all.

The remaining factory men were never threatened !

Rossi, on the other started 8th,
and passed all The FAST guys.......

At least for me, one of the larger questions about
the teams was what the hell happened to Aprillia ?

We remember that Ducati lured Chief designer Luigi"Gigi" Dall’Igna
away from Aprilia in 2014.  Gigi's race Sunday proved that he knows
what he is doing, and can teach the "other" Italian team (Ducati)
how to go from mid-pack to podium in 12 months.

So, Has Aprillia lost their was completely ?

From the internet:

Losail (Qatar), 29 March 2015 - The first race for the RS-GP was long-awaited by the entire Aprilia Racing Team Gresini as an essential test to assess how far development has come on the young project in an actual competition.

But contact with Marc Marquez in turn 6 of the first lap put Alvaro Bautista - the rider who had shown the most encouraging progress throughout the weekend - out of the game, damaging the front left brake lines and the sensors.

Marco Melandri rode his Aprilia across the wire, accumulating laps, information and sensations that will be important for the RS-GP growth process.

ROMANO ALBESIANO (Aprilia Racing Manager)

"It's a shame about what happened to Alvaro because of everything this weekend, this was the most long-awaited test. The most important. It would have been truly essential to see where Alvaro would have placed in comparison to that big pack he was fighting in through the first turns of the race, but unfortunately the move Marquez made damaged the bike too badly for it to continue. This was our spirit taking on the first race because it was a test, and this is how it will be in this initial phase of the season, both for the bike and the entire team. Now we need to analyse all the data Marco collected, since he rode his RS-GP all the way to the finish."

FAUSTO GRESINI (Team Manager)

"What happened in the first race was an important experience for Alvaro and for the entire team, especially in order to bring home all that information that only a race can provide. It's a good sign that Marco finished his race. Of course that isn't enough and we have a lot of work to do in order to improve, but it is a first signal to start from."

ALVARO BAUTISTA

"Unfortunately the race test that we had planned ended straight away: Marquez got off to a bad start and he wanted to make up positions quickly, but without considering the fact that there were other riders on the track. In turn 6 he squeezed between Barbera and me, I have no idea how, hitting me and ruining the front brake area, lines and sensors. It was impossible to continue. I'm sorry because Marc is a good guy, but he has been too aggressive in the past in these types of situations. I think it is only right to point it out to him because it's risky. Today I was lucky because I didn't crash, but it doesn't take much to get hurt out there. So, like I said, we weren't able to complete our test today but we must not forget this episode and we need to be thinking about the next round in Austin already. It is a very different track than this one where we'll have the opportunity to check all the data gathered this weekend to develop the bike and look for ways to improve."

MARCO MELANDRI

"It wasn't the fastest race of my life, but on a new bike in a new category it's what we expected. On the other hand, we finished the race, our first true long run, and we gathered a lot of data that will be essential to our development process. We need time. When the bike starts working well my riding style will also improve and we'll be able to take a decisive step. Now it's up to the guys at Aprilia to interpret my sensations and translate them into changes to the RS-GP. We have some more complicated races ahead of us, since I am unfamiliar with the Austin and Argentina tracks, but they will give us more pointers to work on."

Experience counts  :D

We haven't been jumping up an down, screaming at the TV for a while

Where did the Suzuki finish? First time out.

I was watching it alone and nearly jumped out of my chair too!  Rossi just rides smarter.  I love that guy!  This is his 83rd GP win I believe and he has over a hundred wins overall.  He's won Qatar four times now which ties him with Stoner I think.  Watch him in those 'double' corners.  He always has great entry speed (and exit speed) but he also goes faster between the apexes.  Most other riders don't.  Nano seconds count up lap after lap.  Watching Dovi's line lap after lap didn't hurt either.  The Ducs need better brakes or better riders...Dovi went wide way too many times.  Lorenzo was muscling his Yammy from mid race on, and losing the fight.  Tire's?  Man I wish the TV coverage would include rider interviews and so on like other big time pro racing coverage.  After all, these guys are running over 200 mph every lap (and) braking down to double digit speeds, hanging off their bikes scraping knees and elbows (shoulders too maybe)? and the coverage on TV just barely covers the finish.  Someone is going to end up punching Marquez in the face one of these days if he doesn't stop banging his way thru the pack like he's running in NASCAR.  As fast as he was from last to fifth, a great rider doesn't have to ride like that.

Rossi is the MASTER  8)
Precision, clean riding style while the others look a bit messy.
Rossi was watching from 2nd place, seen him do it sooo many times, he watches, he waits, he calculates exactly what he will have to do from which point on
the track at the very last bend. He is like an assasssin, waiting. He saves gas by very riding smoothly and pressurising the leader and waiting for the last lap/last bend.
He waited for the exact right moment at the final bend and then bang ! Executed his move perfectly.
Can't help but love the guy !  :D

Dovi looked well pleased too  :thumb:
I have no more sh*ts to give.

I think summat is up with Marky Mark.
Towards the end of last season he was off the pace.
He's had a  few nasty off's and I wonder whether he has lost some of his confidence?
I have no more sh*ts to give.

Yes !

Although Divi never said it,
there is NO dishonor in
being beaten ONLY bu Rossi.

On the podium, all three look pleased
with their own performances,
and all three obviously felt joyful about
being together on the podium
after such an historic event !

That's a good point, and it may be that
Marky Mark now has something to lose.....

3 years ago, he was just another Moto2 and Moto3 Winner.

Now he is a 2-in-a-row MotoGP champion.

Nowhere to go but down, and it is
only news when he loses........

WOW - THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

Could have been Crutchlow up there
instead of the team of the two Andrea's.

Instead, he took off the red, and came 7th.

On the other hand,,,,,,,
could he be next for Pedrosa's seat ?

We used to say that DUCATI was
where motorcycle racers went to die,
and racing dreams turn to dust.........

Spot on.
It's finding the same burn as he had before he won the championship and that ain't easy.
But after a few hard off''s I think you get reminded about your mortality?
Everyone thinks they are immortal at that age  :D but maybe it's dawning on him?
Then look at the stiff competition? Even "old man" Rossi is still taking em !

It's going to be the full MotoGP circus this year again !
I have no more sh*ts to give.

I like Cal, he lives not far from here. He is the epitome of the British racer. Full of fun, very popular, a grafter and a real tryer. He gives it the full berries every time he goes out. He never gives up, unless he runs out of fuel  no one could ever question his 100% commitment.
He's got some rough edges, but a very likeable guy.

He joined Duke for the simple reason that he wanted a factory ride. No one else offered him one.
But if he had waited?
But they've now taken away Ducatis extra fuel allowance, they are down to 22 litres same as the rest of the teams. So maybe the Dukes will be back down where they were around 4th and 5th places?

The bikes sound like their fuel use is OK.

I suspect they won't be all that bothered
to reduce the fuel load.

More to worry about the loss of the
"soft option" tyre if they podium again.

Ducati doesn't have that much experience running
full race pace at the front for full race distance,
and reliability is an unknown......

Losing the "12 engine" program could have
a big impact - but that would be next year
at the soonest, and 2016 brings new rules - again.

In the old days, (Think 1960's and early 1970's)
I remember the AMA having a 1200cc class,
( presumably for Harley Big Twins),
in the amateur classes,
and maybe an "unlimited class."
