Ideas on an low oil pressure cutoff switch?
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:24:54 PM »
Has anyone installed a low oil pressure cutoff switch on their 'busa motors? The stock ECU is not programmed for one so it will have to be aftermarket parts and a kludge to put together. The problem is that on startup the engine has no pressure so the switch has to be bypassed.
Can anyone suggest a way to do this? Parts, schematic, etc?

Thanks
Don

Don a mate put a switch on his bike and it bucked violently when pressure dropped, must be fluctuating enough at switch point   , not sure it would be good on the salt, maybe a big red light off an adjustable switch ?

adjustable Hobbs switch to fuel pump relay

My tuner brain says to me that's not a good idea...so as the oil pressure drops to null, the bike also detonates because it runs lean until it gets so lean it can't run.  Am I missing something?

What about using an adjustable Hobbs switch and link it to the kick stand sensor?   Bike in neutral, and it should start...once moving and the oil pressure drops, kills the ignition (and some bikes the fuel too)

you get the idea..., but that said I think a fuel injected engine would quit immediately rather than run lean long enough to cause it to want to use aluminum as fuel

The mates killed the ign , you can replicate the effect flicking the kill switch on and off rapidly

Any time you run a Turbo motor lean even for a second or two it could hurt something, depending on the severity, it may not melt something but all it needs to do is get the ring lands a little hot, they wiggle, pinch a ring, loose power, issue multiplies itself, then you have something melted
The older you get do you notice you start chickening out way before the bike does
