What class would I be in?
« on: April 17, 2015, 01:12:44 AM »
I'm kind of lost on classifying my bike for the speed trials. My specs are in my signature below and I'll be running pump gas. Has anybody done this?
RCC turbos rock!!! Rcc- Ultra plenum, case saver, Carillo rods, Wossner pistons, APE springs/tool steel shift shafts, Ferrara valves, ARP studs, lightened and balanced crank, Boostbysmith ecu editor, AMS 1000 with CO2, 475 hp. Mac arm 0-6 over, BST carbon fiber rims. Someday I'm goin' fast!

Mac arm is going to be borderline for MPS, and give you trouble hooking up
otherwise body is MPS, engine 1350, if you use event gas its BG , if you supply your own its BF
If you want any info about the best event gas for your bike call Rick at ERC fuels , he supplys them all
Most turbo stuff runs E8D, which is pretty much like C16, but you may need to retune for it

Why take the chance with pump gas? You have a lot invested into your set-up!

Which racing association are you interested in ?

Texas, Mojave, Bonneville (SCTA), Bonneville (AMA)
Loring and ECTA all have different class rules......

Yep, just got the word from Richard.  Pump good for a mile, beyond that 50/50. I was going to try for a pump gas record. Now I have to play with the big boys. :D

Not pump gas, just event gas, to run in any GAS class, you must use any of the available ERC gasolines and have tank sealed. Show up with Texaco and you must run in fuel class.
And we run A8 D, not E8.
All records can be viewed on the BMST website. MPS 1350 stout class.

Jim is correct.

You will pprobably be happier all-round with
a much higher octane fuel that pump 93.

As remarked, you have a substantial
investment in your engine and development.
One good fit of detonation could write all that off.

There is no class for pump 93, so no record to be set.

Use the good stuff !

The BMST records are a little hard to find on their web site.

Here's a direct link.

Records are at the end:

http://bonnevillespeedtrials.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/AMA-LSGC-SR-2015v13.pdf

As Jim said, MPS/BG-1350 is pretty stout,
as is the (easier) fuel record.

MPS-BG......252.832mph...... Noonan, J......Suzuki.....2005
MPS-BF......239.821mph.......Assen, R......Suzuki......2008

If you could fit you bike into the "altered" class "A"....

APS-BG.......107.214mph......Pedroli, D......Kawasaki......2011
APS-BF........236.01mph.......Assen, R......Suzuki......2009

The gas record of 107 mph looks pretty easy !

Maybe I'll enter the gas class and the run what you brung class. I could balls out run with race gas and turn it down for a pump gas run. Now, I'll need to find out how much boost I can safely run wot on pump (if any).

Run whatca brung class has a speed limit and a short, short course.   :td:
You can run pump gas if you wish, but you will  not be able to set a record unless you use event gas in a gas class.  Pump at Wendover is 91 octane... not 93.
However ERC has 100 unleaded that is legal.
Whatever you decide, be safe (work your way up in speed, the salt is not pavement), have fun (there are a lot of interesting bikes and people to see and talk to), then go fast

Why bother with  pump gas, use the gas available from ERC and run all classes?

Jonn, Cliff's Cycle in Bremerton has ERC fuel so what I do is buy a couple gallons then have Nels at 2 Wheel  Dyno Works tune my bike to the fuel so I know what my tune should be at Bville.
I'm not a fan of the ERC fuel at Bonneville for my NA application (too high of octane) but it is good quality, is consistent unlike pump gas, is the spec fuel for gas classes at BMST and Rick Gold is a wealth of knowledge that is worth the price.

MJ, have you tried the unleaded MULB.  The 110 was too much octane for my NA 1000.  The MULB is oxygenated 100  and worked very well for my bike.  Keep in mind guys that Bonneville is at 4300 feet.

Yeah I have been using the MUL/B (actually C now) at Bonneville. We have found with testing with my lower compression ratio it just doesn't work as good as 87 octane pump gas despite playing with timing, AFRs, etc. or as good as MR12 :hys:
One of these days when I pull the old girl down I'll bump up the CR to be able to take advantage of the higher octane fuels.
In the P-P class the ERC MUL/C is the spec fuel so that is what we use.

We made our best speed at Bonneville with AFR 13.3-13.5 on the MUL fuel.  13.2:1 calculated CR.  Started at 12.8 and just kept going leaner and faster.... motor survived fine, ran 209 in bike and 206 in the car.
When we run blown in the car, we use 110 on Rick's recommendation, he is a great source for gas info if you tell him everything about your motor.
