Just a Minor Question............
« on: June 01, 2015, 10:05:52 AM »
Are the stock pistons in a 2014 Busa cast or forged?  I can't find a spec sheet that tells me on-line.  Thanks, guys.

While doing the headwork and replacing the base gasket, why not a set of fine quality forged pistons that are significantly lighter?  Retain stock bore and just replace the pistons and rings.  Is that cost effective?  I would think so, if you can reduce reciprocating mass in the pistons, would not the engine rev a tad quicker?

Would there be a clearance issue as forged expands more cast?......in other words, would the forged alloy pistons have to have more of a cylinder wall to piston clearance?  If so, how much more with a stock bore?.

I could be wrong, but I think the stock pistons are lighter that aftermarket forged pistons.

That changes the entire picture...............in my financial favor.   A good set of forged pistons/rings ain't sellin' for no 50 bucks...........more like 750 or more.

Dave, unless you were going to spray nitrous or something, replacing stock pistons is not at all nessessary, as far as weight difference very little, and forged pistons are generaly a tad smaller around than cast, but here again it is minimal

Then I will retain the stock pistons.  Thanks, guys.  :tu:

P.S. Got my Handy lift set up today................right away, I will need another 2 ft on the ramp...........these 67 year old legs and arms can't push the bike on the lift past the rear tire.  I am weaker than I wuz, but a longer ramp will reduce the angle of attack and save my legs, back and arms, not to mention the bike.  The new bike vise is nice, But I wish it had a "cradle" to roll the front wheel in to get it standing straight from the time it hits the vise.  Where can ya get one of those?  I have an excellent friend/welder + Freddy Robbins.

You'll get used to it,just takes a bit of a fast walking start to get it over the hump(same with balancing it upright while tightening the vise, will feel like it's gonna fall over but eventually it'll all be second nature).

Just ordered a 20" extension for my ramp from Handy Lift.........56 bucks.  Well worth it IMO.  I will have Freddy weld it on permanently and should have no further issues with pushing the bike up onto the lift.  Easy-Smeesy.   :)
