I have never seen anything like that up close and personal.  Hope the pilot was OK.  What a nightmare!

Is it just me or did it seem like an eternity for the fire crew to get there?

Scary. The rider's face shield was probably just as clouded as the windscreen. I'm hoping that the RIP sentiments written in Finnish (?) in the Youtube comments are for the bike, not the rider.

It seems like that, they were parked just on the mile mark, maybe they were having a smoke..

Known for puking oil into the breather but that seemed a little more than that

Fuel pressure too high?  Blown line?

I had a friend burnt pretty badly
at Bonneville with similar problems.

At the "big end," he
burned a hole in a piston.

The "fire went out" in that cylinder,
and the unburnt fuel went into
the crankcases, pushed by the blower.

The crankcase, now at positive pressure of
about 30 pounds, started pushing oil
(and fuel) into the catch can.

Within a fraction of a second,
the catch can was overflowing fuel
and oil onto my friend's leathers
 at about 240 mph.

The fuel and oil ignited,
and my friend tried madly to
slow the bike while he was
burning like a torch.

He still runs at Bonneville,
but with a much better "catch system."

Hiro Koiso got burned a couple years ago at the BUB when his fully faired Harley blew up just before the traps and caught it on fire.
Same deal, he had to ride it down until the burn/crash graph intersected where he could bail off without the crash being worse than the burns.
Have a Harley, spent lots of money on it, thought I had a fast motorcycle, bought a Busa, realized all I had was a fast Harley, not a fast motorcycle!

VERY nice description Mr.Williams !

In the late 1980's, Dave Matson, riding his 1955
Vincent twin at Bonneville at over 220 mph,
unloaded his lower end to relieve the pressure
of 90% nitromethane, and filled his fairing lower
with nitro and oil.

Sparks from the spinning magneto started a fireball,
and Dave glided to a stop in his personal BBQ.

Since then, even on a vintage bike, he has
always had a fire extinguisher on his steed !

That same thing happened to me at Bonneville a few years ago. Threw a rod on shut down, which sprayed oil all over the hot turbo and started a fire.
Fortunately the fire crew was right there within a minute. Here is a YouTube of the run.

VERY nice video, Don  !

GLAD you made it, saved it,
and have shown it to us.

Many of the car guys aim at least one
on-board fire-extinguisher nozzle at the
turbo.  That's the big heat source,
and when oil hit's it, flames on the
red-hot iron are soon burning.

You handled the situation very well,
and fire-rescue got there QUICK !
