Setup for Airtech
« on: July 11, 2015, 01:37:28 PM »
Few of you guys are running the new Airtech land speed fairing, shown in the picture on my friends bike. It`s not working, the bike is all over the place after 3rd gear, and can`t take any wind, head or tail.
What have we done wrong ?
There was also Airtech land speed front fender, it was taken off for one run, no change.
We tried also to lower the nose and lift rear, no help.

There were several people running these at Mojave and The Texas Mile. I didnt hear of any who were having handling problems. Acouple were running in the high 240s. They were all running the full package not just the front.

How is the lower front mounted?   I see the lower "fin" mount, but can't see how it is attached to the upper.

Is the back too high? do you have a picture running at speed?  When you say all over the place, do you mean the front feels light?  How much space between the fairing and front fender?  What is the weight distribution with the rider mounted?
Can't help much without better pictures and descriptions.

The lower section is attached to the upper with gen1 type screws, there is just tape put on top of it.

Yes, the front is very light and goes left and right.
I had similar problems myself one time using different fairing and the cause was rear being too low compared to front and jacking the rear up solved it completely, but no help in this one.
I`m afraid we don`t have pictures of it in higher speed.
He installed there also the side panels, but they blew off right at the beginning, so there is lots of air coming between the frame and fairing.
I can`t tell about the weight distribution at this point, it was second try, the first one was in bad head and sidewind and we just thought it didn`t work then, but this time it was tailwind and it was even worse.
We tried different nose heights and it didn`t help either. Do they slam the nose into the fender, no free space left at all ?

You may need the tail
your centre of pressure is way forward,

Tail made a big difference to our bike when Jim was riding last yr , although we had a different brand fairing and were on wet salt
went from major handling problems from 140 mph to 228 mph and fairly steady

newer design fairings are very big up front , compared to the older styles

What if there would be small wings, like in the ZX12 ?

Was that picture taken at high speed, or near the start?

If that is at speed that could be part of the problem...  Look at Deans avatar.... it should look a lot like that to use that type of fairing....

And can you describe the handling issue,
front end wobble increasing with speed ?
rear end weave increasing with speed ?
either on decelleration?
speed induced lean ?
other ?

Picture was taken right after finish line, but he was on and off the throttle couple times. Trouble started just after shifting to third. Front end starts to float, feeling very light, going left or right. He managed to pull 190mph once, it was so bad he took the fairing off and ran 200 naked.

Does the bike have ballast on the swingarm?

Please post the naked speed, rider, date and location, and I'll add it to the naked 200 list.

There is no ballast.
It was last sunday at Kauhava airfield, Finland, measured by Sunrise Cruisers timing team,
Petri Häkkinen, 200.68mph
He is rider number 214 on this list, speeds are in kph,
