SCTA Mojave Mile 9 AUG 15
« on: July 30, 2015, 03:29:47 PM »
For what it's worth, the SCTA is offering a Mojave Mile weekend
after this for those who entered Bonneville, but who also
suffered the (2 years in a row) rain out.

If you visit the SCTA website

http://www.scta-bni.org/

Look in the upper right corner of the opening page
and find the meet-specific info, and also a link to their
FACEBOOK page, which often has more current information....

https://www.facebook.com/SCTASouthernCaliforniaTimingAssociation

you might also find.....

A modest proposal.......

With the (not so unexpected) unreliability
of the Bonneville Salt flats, the SCTA might
well consider adding Mojave to their
permanent calendar.

Having (or getting) experience in another
venue will offer an additional income stream
to supplement the vast amount
of profits from El Mirage.

I think that there is NO more respected
LSR organization than SCTA / BNI.

If the SCTA developed expertise on pavement,
than they might become the world-wide experts
in an additional area, reaching
a world - wide audience.

There are already several tracks in England
offering mile races, with one or two regularly
operating in Finland (!),  Italy is planning an event,
as is South Africa.  Germany is also
considering a 1km/1 mile event.

Some Hot-Rod experts have declared that
pavement -LSR is the fastest growing part
of our beloved sport.

I would hate to see the SCTA left behind......

The SCTA is usually pretty good about
organization, rider / driver "thruput"
and posting results.

This might be an interesting opportunity
to see how "Bonneville Prepared" bikes do
when moved directly to pavement.

It might also be a nice comparison to
see bikes speeds that run BOTH on
the dirt of El Mirage and pavement.

1.3 miles of modest traction vs
1.0 miles of better traction.....

My friend:

The simple answer is no,
since we are continuing to prepare
for the subsequent Bonneville Salt Flats races.

We had hoped for hard salt, since we have
a NEW streamliner to make it's debut.

However, we are now taking time to look back
at the smaller bikes, that may not need the
traction of the high horsepower bikes.

A record is
a record......

It's a travesty what the mining industry have done to the Salt Flats. It used to be two feet thick not so long ago.

Best of luck with your new liner.  Must be exciting to see how it will handle at speed. Gerry and i contemplated building one in the 1990s but decided against it. I spent a lot of time making drawings for that project.

I went to Mojave today for a couple of hours.  Conditions were great.  Clear sky with a temp of 31C / 88F, 12% humidity and 1,014 mb. No line at all to make a pass around 1 pm. Couldn't stay long since I work nights while being assigned to Edwards.

Don't know what the fastest is so far but Tom Krause said the factory H2R went 214.
Have a Harley, spent lots of money on it, thought I had a fast motorcycle, bought a Busa, realized all I had was a fast Harley, not a fast motorcycle!

I saw that pass. Appeared to be a factory team or support.
