Bike won't rev past 10k in any gear
« on: May 23, 2015, 06:38:43 AM »
What's up.

I have a stock Gen2 busa with an Alien Head exhaust.

Bike does not want to rev past 10k in any gear. Just creeps slowly but never makes it to the rev limiter. Runs fine below 10k.

It does the same thing with a map and without a map.

I changed air filter checked plugs and went through a couple tanks of fresh gas.

Motor has never been touched. I'm going to pull the tank to see if there is any debris but what else do you guys think I should check?

Thanks.

It started doing it when there wasn't anything on there at all and then I flashed it using the editor but the symptom was still there. I don't have a power commander.

I think you need to put it on a dyno and see what the AFR is.  Both too fat and too lean can cause your problem.  A dyno session can tell you a lot about the performance of the fuel system and the electrical system.

I have a new Wego3 that I bought for my drag bike but I can install it on this one and take it for a ride to see what's going on.

You didn't say what year the bike is and the pic does not tell me... I recently worked on an 06 1K that the dyno showed me these things: the tach was off by 1400 at 12000, it was stuck in neutral mode, the rev limiter was actually at 12000(neutral mode), the upper injectors were not working causing it to be lean in the upper range.
Your AFR gauge will help you figure it out but an outside source of info will sort it faster.

Thanks.  It's a Gen2 Busa 2008 to be specific.

i would test the fuel system for flow , blocked filter and worn pump seem to be the first thing that lets them down

The filter was dirty but that didn't fix it.  I started taking fuel out of the map and it's getting better.  I'm about to hook up my WEGO or Bazazz and get the map just right and see how it runs.

that tea bag is just a strainer for big bits not to jam the pump, filter is the white plastic
you can test without removing if you jump the fuel pump relay ecu grounding wire, (yellow with fine black stripe) direct to gnd , and use the key to power up or off
and measure flow  from the tank outlet

logging will tell the whole story  :thumb:

Thanks

I also felt that it was time to go after market on my 1397 a few years back and put a AEM 320 in and did this mod to fuel filter http://www.hayabusa.org/forum/maintenance-do-yourself/175027-fuel-filter-mod-2.html    Now as a 1441 gas flow has not ever been a issue

Check and see if a rubber grommet from the ram-air tube or air filter gasket hasn't worked it's way into your throttle body tubes.  I've seen this happen a few times and keep the throttle bodies from opening 100%.  Most are lucky it was trapped and not sucked into the engine. Also, make sure you are getting 100% throttle while the airbox is off.

if it won't rev past 10K in any gear make sure the clutch switch isn't bypassed, that gps sensor is working.  ECU thinking its in neutral would cause that, does it feel like a limiter?

Yes, does sound like it may be running "neutral" mapping  :thumb:

The clutch and neutral map rev limit is 10,600...would show as 10,800 on the tach.  However, the 6th gear "soft limiter" is at 10K...I would suspect the GPS sensor, it thinks it is in 6th gear moist of the time would be my guess.

Turns out it was the fuel pump I replaced it and now the bike runs fine.

Thank you all for your help.
