Thanks folks, looking forward to getting on the road this evening. Weather still looks good  :thumb:

Scott, it will be good to meet you and see your bad bad ZX12s. Are you bringing the turbo and shooting for 250?

Don I can't wait to see your batshit Busa! Did you run out of things to buy for the GSXR?

safe travels everyone,
Dean

Yes good to finally put a face to the name! bringing the green alchy turbo, had headgasket failure at the summer event(20 psi), so sent the head to be o ringed(to use with mls), but had issues getting it back on time. so luckily i had everything to put together the motor that was supposed to go back in the drag bike chassis when i ever had the time. its a oringed block, copper hg and receiver groove setup so should be tough enough. only running 14-15 psi this event so it may not be enough for the 250. im a bit worried it will run hot so hoping the methanol will keep it cool, i made it fat as hell up top. no misfires on the dyno so hopefully it will be ok. taking an oil change just in case it milks it up.

the first motor was full water jackets, this one is a little small on coolant passages (2 little ports)

what bike(s) are you bringing?

Looks good Scott, great usable power curve.

I am bringing Karl's old 1634cc Busa "Greenie" running naked. I am aiming high, at Ryan's big number. Hoping for a safe and fast meet for all.

I have put a little over 30 psi at 11000 rpm through mine several times Scott with big studs and no head gasket issues yet but the O ring is something I have considered.

thanks guys! thats correct on the no boost controller and foot shifting. you really have to baby the throttle, takes a little practise (which i still need lots more of)

It was a great event, nice to be back at a race track after 2 years.

Scott & Henry (Color me Gone) kicked ass with a thrown-together motor, amazing job, congrats!

Very good to meet Ed Petrozzi, beautiful, clean bike. He overcame a cracked header with a beer can to go 243+  :tu:  I didn't get a good pic, sorry.

Also nice to meet Hussain, who ran 239+ spinning down the track. Another beautiful bike.

Don & Steve's piece of art was jaw-dropping, and I even got to sit on it! No response when I offerred to ride it though.... They are working through the kinks in record time, and when it's dialed in, that bike should go very fast. Best of luck.

I struggled with the naked Busa, making one 180mph bouncy pass with the rigid tail, and it will be my last without a shock. Huge thanks to the Daly family, who loaned me a ZX10 shock off Cliff's bike Saturday afternoon. The best kind of people.

With the shock (and radiator, as the water tank fit in the shock's place) I went 212 / 217, and it felt good, but an oil pressure gauge line came loose late in the pass, and I sprayed oil all over the bike. I didn't even know it, which is good, in that I didn't wreck, but bad, because the engine is hurt. I haven't torn it down yet, but the remaining oil is half glitter.

On the way home I stopped in at Larry Forstall's and had a great meal and bench racing session.

Here's a few pics, I look forward to my next trip to Loring in 2016.

Dean

Apparently I'm a poor judge of "glitter" in oil - because the engine is fine!  WHEW. So lucky.

Thankfully I have all winter to freshen it up and reassemble. I will also fab a new water thank that will fit around a shock, and try again next year.

One thing I did notice - the cam chain guide on the top end, over the sprockets had snapped around one bolt. It was still in place and tight, but looked like it fatigued and cracked under stress. Has anyone seen this before?

Dean better to check and be sure than run a motor that could destroy itself and potentially cause you problems too

yep cracked a guide before, went to manual tensioner at that point and not seen it again

Good to know on the guide - and this engine does have an OEM tensioner. It looked to be in the right spot though, hmm.

I was happy to get a chance to look over this beautiful engine, and this turned out to be the best outcome possible. The rods are so light - the crank is so pretty, the pistons, the head... my old friend Kevin used to say - "I wish we could use clear cases so we could see all those pretty parts" and it's true  :tu:  Bob Carpenter

My suggestion is stick with an oem tensioner, thats what Richard and apparently Bob Carpenter swear by
