Lapping Valves??

Hey fellas......thought I read somewhere that u shouldn't lap TI valves, true or not ?

No, do not lap the Ti valves, you will lose the protective factory coating and fugg it up.  Lap the seats with a "dummy valve", like a stock stainless one.

No the most you may want to do is blue dye the valve or seat to ck where its hitting but thats it
The older you get do you notice you start chickening out way before the bike does

ok.....I was specifically talking about a "used" not a new valve, same rule applies? assuming the coating has worn off anyway ?

If the machine shop does their job remotely close to correctly, lapping valves is a waste of time and waste of valve life.

This is true.  But using a special tool and pilot (not a valve) you can polish the seats and have a smoother contact area and create a better seal and transfer heat better right from startup.

Its just a very slight polish and doesn't even remove any material or get silicon carbide embedded in the valve or seat like using a compound does. It just removes tiny tiny burs etc. that you cant even see.
