1397 build in socal gen 1
« on: November 07, 2015, 02:06:01 AM »
Hello all,
I am getting ready to build my motor this winter. I have a hayabusa gen 1 and am wondering who has had the 1397 kit installed. I am worried about reliability and overheating issues in california. It get hot during the summer,105 and up. This bike is going to be my daily driver and i plan on keeping th compression down on the cylinders. If built right it ahould last for awhile i would think. Anyways if you have exp. please comment.
Thx

I do have experience living here in California most all of my life ~ and if your bike is down for the winter, you had better have a back up bike .  .  .

You do know that you'll need to stay away from the internet so you won't know that we're out riding ?

Because our riding season on the west coast goes for the entire year !

If it's raining we got the dirt bikes too .

If you are going to keep the compression down why bother... do you just have too much money to spend... the higher compression of the bigger hole is where a lot of the extra power comes from.
If you are that concerned about the extra heat from additional performance leave it stock.

I have to say that it would seem self-defeating to add cc's to an engine and then lower the compression.  Just leave it stock with a Power Commander, a good pipe/exhaust and a good dyno-tune.

Ouch, that stick hurts, man.  I do enjoy riding the bike as Rodney set it up, however, after putting close to 750 more miles on it, I now know that I would like the same "hit" of power in 3rd thru 6th that this bike now has in first and second.  I had the sucker pinned in second the other day and was having a ball........right up to the point where I hit the 11,700 rev limiter.  It is a very simple and straightforward position - more power, earlier in the RPM band.
I guess I have just owned and ridden too many turbos over the years and want just one more.  Just one more, please, sir, and I will step away from the bar and go home.

Thank you for the compliment, but, the real credit for that bike lies in Rougemont, NC with Rodney Williford.

The 15's are goin for 15,500 and I only paid 12,200 for that "left over" 2014 in February of this year when the 15's came in...........they dropped the price on the 14's by over 2,500 and I squeezed another 400 out of 'em cuz I had all 100 dollar bills on me...............nothing like cash-in-hand to motivate a dealer.  I paid 12,200 for that bike.

All the work Rodney did to the heads will work with the new Stage II and the 1000 Ultra Plenum, even the cams will still work...........might have to re-degree them a bit, I dunno, but Rodney does.  Only thing I have to dump is the Brock Ti Exhaust...........not enuf ID for the Turbo to breathe fully.  Do not want to "choke it out".

so I have decided to just do head ported by porch and use my yoshi stage one cams. I can't afford the big bore kit yet. I am kinda concerned cause the lift is tiny on the yoshi cams but i can swap out the cams if I am not happy with it..
this is the up to date idea. hoping for 180 or 190 hp

Jeremy, if you want to control heat on a Gen I, get on the Schnitz site and get an auxillary fan and a PMR clutch-side switch to make it an on/off. You'll be able to idle all day with no creep in needle. Works here in Vegas....on triple digit days.

One of my fav mods for living here....

Currently, yes.  60,000 miles on the old motor, before the accident.  After the fan install, never-ever a heating condition.  I ride all day in the smoking-hot weather......

The extra fan doesn't bother the charging system, and pulls it's weight.....best mod for piece of mind.  Just don't wear ear-buds and park your bike.  Might forget to turn the darn thing off and drain your battery..... :(  okay, at least once or twice....no harm done.
