lowering a stock hayabusa
« on: January 09, 2016, 08:39:56 AM »
If I don't drag race, Is their any real reason to lower a busa. What I'm asking is this-if all I'm after is the "look", is that worth losing some of the stock handling just to get the "look"?

My understanding is that lowering the bike an inch or so aids in hi-speed stability.   Less air underneath works for the same reason it does in NASCAR...............kind of a "ground effects" package.  1 inch or 1 1/4 inches will not kill the handling.  Unless you are used to draggin' a knee at the stock height around turns..............which I do not.

Never thought of this before. When lowering the bike, make sure it's done right. The suspension should not bottom out before the  hard parts do. Like the fairings, exhaust and oil pan. Sliding the fork tubes up is cheaper than rebuilding and valving the forks. BTW, my bike is stock height. I am no expert. Just my two cents.

My bike is stock height right now. A buddy of mine who is in to drag racing said he could lower it for me. Lowering links in the back and triple tree in the front.

Just slide the fork tubes up an inch and add a set of "infinately adjustable" lowering links to the rear.  New triple trees really are not necessary in the front.

That is how my bike sits................also, be prepared for the bike to sit in a more upright stance when on the kickstand - side effect of lowereing it a bit.

Ok. So an inch in the front and the rear should be OK for starting out?

Another quick question, what's your opinion on brocks exhaust. I have two brothers slip on but I'm lookint look to upgrade from that.

I want the performance and look. What's your take?

You are in luck....................I have a full titanium Brock's system which has to come off the bike since Rodney is putting a turbo on it. (have to have a larger pipe diameter) That system is sold by Brock in conjunction with a PCV Power Commander tuned for a Gen II busa.  My old system is for sale by Williford Racing (he now has possession of it as he is still installing the Stage 2 RCC kit with the Ultra Plenum on my stuff) and it only has 2700 miles on it - like new.  You will need the Power Commander with it to get the full benefit.  Steve at Brock's can hook you up with that.  Rodney can hook you up with the pipe/exhaust/carbon can as I gave it to him for consideration on my build.  You WILL save money if you get my Brock Ti Exhaust.  Great sound as well.  Not too loud but not too quiet.  Just right.

My bike is lowered 1".  Notice how the fork tubes in front stick above the triple trees by about 1".   Lots of turns with no bottoming out and some good hard stops without any hard parts touching anything.  Easier to mount and dismount with the hump on as well.

Williford Racing, LLC 6716 Bahama Rd., Rougemont, NC 27572      (919)237-2348 or (919-471-4941) shop        You can get him weekdays after 6:30PM in the shop most times.

Single exhaust all titanium - headers and all complete - total weights is 8 1/2 lbs.  Your stock system weighs 49 lbs.  You will lose 40 lbs of dead weight on the bike and gain about 10 RWHP with the pipe and the PCV.

I would suggest you try and call him today before that system flies out of his shop.

I just got off the phone with Rodney and he is at the shop number today.  I told him you would likely give him a call.

When lowering the front you'll either have to get a new top tree(I got a Brocks)or a Soupys spacer kit which will allow the fork tubes to slide up through the top tree, the stock set up won't allow it.
