Hey Jeremyg 1283.  with your gearing you need higher RPM.  since I last saw you run your first pass at 6.88. Jeff is right weight is so important, You can launch a lot harder and slip the clutch more. I run a 16 / 47 and launch at 6500 or higher with my big old self on it and got a best of 6.52 sec. at 119 mph..my 60' is 1.62.. I need work on that. In about 3 weeks I'll be back out.....I have Adam's cell since he moved.

Yes. But. A 14R is 1441cc and your Gen1 is 1298. 14R w bolt-ons is making 200rwhp,your Gen1 is 160-170rwhp at best. 14R also has a shitload more torque then a stock Gen1.
Different horsepower/tq/powerband requires different launch strategies. Try 3500rpm,most likely the bike will stumble and you'll kill your ET.

From what I can recall, when my Gen1 was SWB and engine was stock I'd leave around 5500-6500rpm. Now,when my Gen2 was stock,if I left at that rpm I'd get a decent 60' but a shitty 330' cause it would wheelie hard. I adjusted the rpms lower and found that 4500rpm was good for me.

Trial and error. Everyone has different riding styles. Experiment with different rpm and make a mental note of which works best. Then strive to replicate that over&over until you are consistent. Just go slow and take your time. Trying out too many suggestions and following several peoples advice may overwhelm you.
Practice practice practice....if it were easy everyone would launch a bike like Rickey or Teasley :tu:

Doug ~ did Adam get a new cell phone number ?

With 16/47 you can toss the lever & pin it !

The Z X 14 makes way more torque .

Weight makes HUGE differences.

Heavy guys need low gears.

The lighter guys here.

Not so much !

Red,that 14R you posted is based out of Cali correct? I swear I read an article(either online or in the now defunct SSB magazine)about that bike and the owner/his son in regards to E.T. advantages of using a multi-stage clutch. For some reason the name Augie is popping into my head

Good points do you remember what kind of ET ran with your stock busa.
It does apply though how he spoke about the clutch and opening first and not letting our Rpm go up then come out of the hole.

Back in 2003 on my first Busa which was a '99, I ran a 9.59 @ 146.27 mph. It had an early small tube Hindle pipe, BMC filter, PC, -1 front, lowered and strapped. Stock wheelbase and foot shifted.

...and that would be on a good day with a happy dyno(for a totally stock Gen I with factory exhaust,etc.).Most seemed to make around 150-151 at the rear wheel, and 161-162 with a good exhaust,PC,etc.

Launching a swb Gen I would be totally different than launching a Gen I with a 6" over arm.Lowered, strapped, and 6" over you can gear it down and get after it pretty hard, whereas I've seen swb Gen II'S actually drop a tooth on the rear and leave fairly soft to avoid a wheelie.I've never been able to pin mine in 1st gear without the front end coming right up so have to gradually roll it on(which is a pain in the ass),on my Gen I I could hammer it in 1st and never had the front pop up.I believe the main thing is to try to be at WOT/clutch all the way out at the 60' mark.I remember when little(about a 135 lbs.)Richard Gadson ran an 8.99 on Brocks Gen II,had to drop down to a 42T rear:

Yup,I run 18/42 on my SWB Gen2 and sometimes 18/41 for 1/4mi duty. Go through the traps at the top of 4th gear.

Jeremey,it's been a long time since I ran my Gen1 with a stock engine & SWB so I looked through some of my timeslips and 9.70s-9.80s at 140-143mph were the best I could find. Sounds about right;since I was 235lbs back then.
The bike was lowered, small box mod,Yosh RS3 pipe,PC2(anyone else remember those? lol)and had a welded slipper.

Ok cool. So a 9 sec pass stock is what im shooting for then. Hopefully my suit fits i ordered. If so i will be running on the 7th. Coming out at 5500 like you guys said. 9.70 is fast as shit.
