104 MPH Honda Grom
« on: January 28, 2016, 07:26:16 PM »
I built my little Grom.  Got it to run 104 MPH.  What class would I be able to run it in at ECTA?  It's 181cc.  Video below.

After a pipe and tune, mine will only go 58 with me sitting upright on it.

Would you mind sharing a parts list for your build?

It has a ported Takegawa 4 valve 181cc kit along with a Takegawa 5 speed transmission.  I added a Mikuuni 32mm Flatslide Carb and a stand alone ignition.  Those are the key components along with a good large tube exhaust.

72 MPH in a tuck was the best that I could get out of it with exhaust and a tune.

Picking up 32mph after the work is simply amazing! You must have been super excited after the first few rides :D

They barely break the national speed limit in stock form ~ to double that is simply an amazing accomplishment .  .  .

If I was just to guess, the class would be M/G-250 /4. Assuming you would be running event gas (fuel).

That's a darn good speed.  I've been right at 110 on a stock never opened up motor Ninja 250 that is highly "prep'd" for LSR.  Greg Neal, the owner, with very kind wind conditions has been 112 on the same bike.

I just googled some of the prices.   They sure add up quick, even on something as basic as the Grom.

Sounds right. A fish fairing on that thing would be interesting

Wow!  104 is IMPRESSIVE!!  Great job.

We used to run an '08 Ninja 250 at Maxton, both of the boys ran 118+. At the time I think it was the fastest 250 four stroke in the mile, don't know if it's been topped or not. Unfortunately it ran faster than planned and we ran out of sprocket.
But, it was pretty aerodynamic compared to a Grom.

Chad's girlfriend has a new Grom.........hope he doesn't see this thread!   :D

Wow!  104!

Dan

That was painful just to watch..............and that, of course, is my greatest concern takin' the Busa to the Dragon, which my son is all over me like a wet blanket, to do.  I do not have the skill set for that stuff and I am too heavy and so is the bike.  That road is best ridden by a 160 lb rider on a Ducati or some such, not a 240 lb Geezer on a Busa with 4" in the arm.  IMO.

That road's a death trap if I ever saw one,and can't say I'm a fan of the minibike(but you do over 60 mph on a 10" wheel and you're livin' it).
