99 harness vs 06 harness
« on: April 06, 2016, 06:48:39 PM »
Is the headlight switch wiring different on the 06 compared to the 99?? No power to my lights or light fuses?

But bike runs great now---- :?

Yes. There are a few differences in the light wiring. The flas to pass feature is one. It has been quite awhile and I don't recall how to change it. I think it it just moving pins in the connectors.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

The info below is copied from another board. Not sure if it is correct.
John

the RIGHT needs to be changed and not the left. The right side has a hazard control on the newer bike that my controls ('99) didn't have.
In case anyone needs this in the future:

Remove Lt. G, Lt. Bl, and Blk wires on the harness side. They aren't used.

No changes on these:
Y/G to Y/G (Start switch)
O/W to O/W (Start switch)
O/Blk to O/Blk (Stop switch)

Repin:
O/R to O (Ignition to fuse box and other places)
Blk/Bl to O/G (brake switchs)
R/B to W/B(F. Brake switch)
One other I have written down outside. I think it's O/R to Y/W

One loop gets removed on the switch side of the connector. O/Blue I think.

Pretty dang happy! Wired up my fuel level gauge today too. (connectors are different)

In case anyone needs, the 99 to 06 swap gauge info:
Brown connector:
Y/B to B/G
B/W to B/W (there are two, pick one)

The other two wires on the brown connector are 12v (forget the color) and ground (b/w) to power the pump.
Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.

What I did was buy another left control off a 05 that has the passing light switch. I got one in mint condition on Ebay for $32.00. How did you wire the fuel pump and sending unit from the gas tank that reads the fuel level? On the 07 harness I'm using it's a 4 pin brown connector. The fuel pump and sending unit on my 00 are both 2 pin, I'm not want to cut and splice so I'm going to use male spade electrical connectors and make a 7 inch connecting harness of a sorts that I can disconnect when needed. Any examples from guys that have converted from 16 bit to 32 bit?

It is the throttle side that is very different, I have a 99 bike with an 06 harness, bought a right side switch assembly--think an 04--- and compared it.Wiring on old had 2 loops on back of connector, later one did not, but turned out for the 06 it needed one so made it up. Then headlights and flashers worked but no tail light. Seems I had used a 2008 key switch while getting the 99 one repaired, swapped back, and voila-- a tail light. Why they had to make all these silly changes I don't know. Just happy the bike runs well now!!!!!!!
