A couple years back when I was looking into switching over to a alcohol fuel, I talked with several folks that was using either. I found that the Methanol guys were going through a "ritual" with their race fuel while the ethanol guys were just treating it as pump gas. It seemed that Methanol was a lot more corrosive to the fuel system and took extra care. Then I found on the tuning side, I could still use ECUEditor with ethanol because the fuel demand was only about 30% more than race gas. Anything that demands much more than that, the injectors would then have to be close to 1000cc and you loose low speed/idle. And I guess, the final point that switched me was I could drive down the road to my local gas station and buy E85 for less than 87 pump gas. While I don't use E85 now, it gave me a starting point that I was able to work with.
Ethanol, like Methanol, has a wider tuning range; runs cooler, but doesn't require quite as much fuel system and can be left in the tank. I do drain the tank over the winter, but not between events.
