The doctors want to wait until possibly Monday to perform surgery on her right leg. Brenda has other injures that require some healing before attempting this major 12-16 hr surgery.  Please keep her in your prayers. Thank You!!

As the 2016 Land Speed Racing season draws close
to a productive season, there are still questions about
three crashes, one fatal, one almost-fatal, and one near fatal.

These crashes are very disappointing, but in a small way, reassuring.

Disappointing in that there has been a death,
and reassuring that two of the three survived.

The death was of beloved racer SAM WHEELER,
star of the Bonneville film "WORLD'S FASTEST MOTORCYCLE."
Sam drove the "Green bike" in the 2006
2-hour classic narrated by Dave Despain.

Another crashes were by Guy Caputo, a long-time bike racer,
small businessman, and the designer and builder of his own
motorcycle, intended to reach far over 250mph.

The final "participant" is the popular BRENDA SUE CARVER,
a talented grandmother from Texas, who was competing
at LORING AFB in Maine this month.

The three accidents have a surprising amount in common,
even though they were at three (3) different tracks,
on three(3) widely differing types of motorcycle,
and at speeds ranging from under 140mph to as high as 250mph.

Nothing is reassuring about crashing :td: thats the last thing I want to do. I see it as something went terribly wrong in the first place, after that it's about healing, finding the cause, learning and spreading the word of what went wrong as to maybe prevent others from a similar crash, then go racing again if possible. While roadracing and desert racing, I've had a few departures and busted bones, and I always look back and think about why I crashed, usually its running out of talent that caused it.  I hope at sometime we learn why Brenda Sue and Sam Wheeler crashed, I think its good info to learn from, but it's their call to tell or not.

Streamliners are a completely different crash than a typical motorcycle, as you are stuck with it for the ride of your life, whereas a motorcycle will let you get away from it, if it does not spit you off right before the crash.  I remember Cliff Gullets streamliner crash, 225 or so MPH, chute, sideways, then up in the air 30 ft or so, then a violent pencil roll. seeing it from close up, it looked as bad as it was.  Then during the BMST Hiro went down on his Harley, likely at around 220 MPH or so, he pretty much walked away with broken bones in both hand.  Not SurE but it sounded like the engine blew then possibility locking the rear and launching him.  Yes 2016 had it's share of crashes and still a few events to go, lets hope for a better 2017 and stay safe out there.

P.S.  Is Brenda giving any indication of what went wrong??  have not heard anything yet, I hope she makes a full recovery and races again. she is a cool gal.

Brenda is doing great. I've been updating Facebook a lot, and updated here once but with hardly any responses at all I just continued to update FB. So she is talking and in good spirits. We haven't discussed what went wrong yet, but it wasn't anything obvious on the bike that failed. So we will share when we find out, if she will even remember. Brenda's right leg had to be amputated because of infection and fever. If you want to see the story check out the GoFundme thread. Please donate if you can as well. Thank you all if you did. I will be giving another update shorty.
