What power is used generally for the 1/2 mile to crack 200.
« on: November 11, 2016, 09:12:42 PM »
As title states. I know my bike will go well over 200 but I'm wondering what power is needed to crack 200 in the half mile.

Curious as to what people are running

Thanks

I think you are going to have a challenge getting good info on this.  I think most of the 200+ speeds in the mile have been splits while running 1.0 or 1.5 mile speeds.  For the turbos or the nitrous bikes they may not be up to full power by the 1/2 mile point - so it will be a bit of a guess as to the power they are making.  I looked at this a while back, and if I remember correctly guys with 1/2 mile splits at (or very near) to 200 were hitting 225+ in the mile (most were 235+ in the mile).  I think you are looking at close to 300 HP or so to hit those speeds.

I am over 230 lbs unsuited and 320hp put me at 198 mph in the half mile several times and probably would have been enough to break 200 with a gear change.
Just trying to do whats right.
Wanna go fast.

Geared for half mile, but one tooth too low at 17/37 or 17/38 with a 190/55 Power One on a 2001 GSXR 1000

It was a couple of years ago...I'm old and don't remember which of the two gearing combinations I used.

I was nowhere close to 300 HP...but 250+

I will be making a half mile 200 attempt at Gila bend and Mojave this year on a BMW.

It will run 219 in the 1.5 mile and 205 in the mile

I did a quick track tune on MR12 on a friends gen2 with a full exhaust, lowered, ceramic bearing and the usual bolt ons. just squeeked 200 after a weekend of 195+.
I would say he was well under 200.
On my 750 stock body or something like a gsxr 1000 or 600 you need 200rwhp and good riding.
EVery 10HP up from there on a stock body 600,750,1000 is probably only a 2mph gain going down as speeds go up.

fuck I just saw Half mile.
Sorry I would say 250-275 depending on the setup. Going for a 1/2 mile I would set up the bike different from the mile.

And that range is what my bike falls into. I was actually geared too low when I ran the 201.5. It would've gone faster with one less tooth on the rear sprocket.

When I was blabbering earlier about the HP needs between the busa and our bike I think the areodynamics play less of a role in the 0.5 mile dig. On that note I think the extended swingarm helps more in the .5 mile then it does in the mile.
