1/2 mile event close to Indy
« on: July 24, 2017, 10:53:40 PM »
Looks like Shift-S3ctor is going to allow motorcycles at the August 19-20 event in Marion, IN.  I do believe that if I can get my nitrous bike to drive straight during heavy acceleration, I'm going to attend.

Good luck, these half mile events are growing.

What's going on with your chassis? Swingarm flex?

It seems that something is going awry with the swing arm.  Started a year ago after Maine, the bike started pulling left.  Originally, I thought it was just the wind blowing me around, but it has been getting worse. After viewing my videos from Maine this year, the bike is pulling left all the time and gets lots worse under big spray conditions.   At Maine, I thought I was going to end up in the pits when the 2nd stage of nitrous came on.  Got everything apart now and are measuring and replacing anything suspicious.

Could it be the wheel/bearings?

That's on the list to checked.  This has been a learning experience for me.  I didn't realize until this happened that some of the swing arm components have wear limits that apparently few actually check.  e.g. there is a 0.010 run-out service limit for the rear axle and mounting shaft.  I measured 4 different swing arm mounting shafts that came off of running bikes. 2 of them had run-outs of more than 0.020.   So far I found that one of my mounting bearings had unacceptable play and the measurements of the swing arm from my bike is "odd".  But, you can't really compare OEM swing arm measure, Suzuki made at least 4 different swing arms from 99-07.

Chassis issues can be tricky to locate, and scary to ride.

Maybe a beefy aftermarket arm would help, or a Computrac assessment? Have you checked out the steering head and fork too?

This brings to mind my friends busa which was squirming here and there, and no reason found, we blamed the fairing at high speeds, and sidewinds.

There should be a bench where you could support the bike tightly from the frame, having rear tyre and swingarm move freely.
