ANDY GREEN and his Team is at it again!
« on: January 15, 2015, 06:01:51 PM »
1000 MPH is the goal for the new liner.  Substantially faster than his old record of 763 MPH from 1997.  One mile in 3.6 seconds!

Great article from Red Bull:

I was fortunate enough to meet him at Bonneville a few years ago, talked for quite a few minutes. Nice guy.

He asked what I drove and I said a bike, he then asked how fast. I stated that I've been just over 200 several times and he said "You guys are crazy! I couldn't imagine sitting on something I could fall off at that kind of speed". He also said I'd much rather go 700 in my cocoon that straddling a bike at 200.

He was a very nice, congenial man & I wish him the best in his quest...........I think he's crazy!  :-)

Thanks for the post Wolf.

After they complete the runway testing, where do they plan to run - Bolivia?

They plan to run on a playa in South Africa. The current record was set at the Black Rock desert in NW Nevada which had a similar silt based surface. Regrettably Black Rock has dried up (Mother Nature's fault, not the Govt.) so South Africa it is. The silt base supplies a cushion for the solid wheels (no tires) which the salt does not. Probably harder  to go 1000 on land than to go straight up as the vehicle has to maintain a very specific plane. Thrust had a variable wing to keep the car at a 3 degree downward angle to keep it on the ground. This was in 1997, I'm sure technology has advanced so far that those problems are solved. But even the best minds don't always get it exactly right. Mr. Ayres the aerodynamicist expected the previous car would go 850 but it ran out of HP (110,000 for the pair of Rolls-Spey 207 engines) at Mach 1.02.  Go get-em Richard and Andy.    LSL

All motor all the time and a turbo now and then.
