1441- .425/.395 SET-UP
« on: April 10, 2018, 06:20:14 PM »
Greetings, just bought a used 1441 w 415/395 cams and cp hi-comp pistons.
I always prefer to ask the people who are truly informed about things as a lot of you
Build them and race them.

So the basic question is on the above type of set up, what cam degree settings does the 1441  generally like for a good spread of power?

Thx in advance

What do you plan to do with the bike? Because if it’s anyth other than all out race install two intake cams at 105/105 and be happy

If they are Web they recommend 106/108 but your PTV clearance may dictate what you end up with.

aren't 2 Intakes too small for a 1441?

I ran the 415 395 cams. With a ward head and je pistons. My cams were set at 108/109. However, the issue you may find is premature wear of the cam lobes, and the buckets. Your setup may not be totally streetable. The issue will be spring pressure. The springs should not be 65lb. if street riding, they should be around 55 lb. please understand I’m not the total expert, and I’m half drunk so yea. Just trying to save ya a couple grand. If the bike is race only, I would set the cams around 109/111, with 65 lb spring, but check valve to piston clearance.
As a point of reference, I dynoed at 224hp.
Hope I helped.

I had a carpenter 1441 with 425 cams on both sides, Never did I have issue with wear, rode and raced bike on street for 3 years, and now have same top end on a 9 mill stroker and again since 2011 still have the same buckets and cams,
I think spring pressure is key I am at 60lbs from Bob Carpenter and run a good oil Amsoil Dominator 10w30

Brett, what was your idle speed (so they understand wear and rpm/oil pressure) and your vacuum at idle? Im fighting with a 1441 has such a radical lope, makes such shitty vac at idle. Mike at Lazer did the port and its a stage 3 grudge head with a lot of material removed which Lee says is probably one of the issues. Getting it on the roller tmrw hopefully, see can we get a tune and maybe mess with idle timing, get it a little tamer. 395/378 65lb springs

Not really. Kinda depends on the compression and headwork. If it doesn't have extensive port work, should run good and you wont have to take it up to 11k+. itll be a torque monster. or take some gen 2 cams, flip the bearing and adj sprox and use the brocks pin.

I had the same problem with crappy idle. Greg Watters suggested that I run the bike looking at the AFR and where the cells were at in the fuel table then start knocking fuel out of it.
I was able to clean up my most idle issues. It surprised me how fat it was running.

Yeah if this o2 sensor is jacked up, would explain my confusion. If its saying 13.2 but its 12ish than that would really make a diff, just need a sniffer to compare it to as this one doesn't have user calibrate. Never again will I have a non calibrateable wideband.

what exhaust are you running, and where is your o2 sensor? full exhaust and no baffle is not suppose to read accurate on a/f reading because of back backpressure. coming from Daytona sensor website. I have datalogger and murray sidewinder. I adjusted a/f so its in range, but I could be rich or lean. wondering what your doing. thanks

synched carbs, they weren't really off, replaced map sensor and removed some fuel, helped smooth out that idle dramatically. think that map sensor was problem more than anything
