Does anyone know Ralph's exact speed? I'll get him updated on the 1 mile list.

Thanks.

And we know what he can do on a longer course   Maybe tire warmers and a sticky tire for 270 ?  WTG  Ralph.  LSL

Certainly at he moment, RALPH HUDSON
is the heir apparent for the sit-on speed crown !

He will be racing in Bolivia (again) where
he and Al Lamb hit it hard last year.

July is the plan.............

BOTH Ralph and Al have made improvements,
and we may see the FIRST 2-way average record
over 300 mph on a sit-on bike.

This is a LSR event like no other with two bikes poised to go 300, a streamliner motorcycle to go 400 and a wheel driven car to go 500. This is not like a trip to Loring, Bonneville or Lake Gairdner. It is a pilgrimage to the wilderness in search of speed. Talk about commitment, the entry fee is $20,000. and that does not include shipping your racer or yourself. And risk, with no hospital or US level medical care like a flight to SLC. Last year Al & Ralph obtained amazing speeds and learned so much. The air is so thin the turbos could only generate about 12# of boost so I am sure they will have bigger units this year. But the big worry is tires. The run up to the timed mile could be 5-6 miles. The centrifugal loading on the tires for so long is far above anything attempted before. They know the risk, I wish them well with success. Thin air, low drag the magic elixir for more speed and these vehicles are already the most aero in the racing world. I wonder if there is anywhere higher one could run. Well it is more than 50 years since I walked it but the saddle connecting Kibo and Mawenzi comes to mind. This is a 16,000' dirt plain joining the two peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania East Africa. A timed one mile flat course could be connected to sloping run ups.  Is that legal? Just thinking outside the box.  LSL

Made my bookings to go see it happen,
Just how the the thin air and cold temps  effected things last yr was a big learning experiance, they will be better setup for the fast runs this year

The aero drag will also be reduced... The guys with the NA 1000 that went last year had never broken 200... everyone said they would go even slower due to lack of air.... they went over 200 surprising themselves and quite a few others...

Did the NA bike make any changes to the engine to help compensate?  Like increase the compression ratio?

I just talk to Nick about his Bolivia runs with the 1000... 2.5 mph faster than Bonneville and yes it took N20 to bust 200

I think everyone was surprised the thin air balanced out hp and mph on his NA bike ,
Didnt work the same for our hire DR650's, 130kph was about it if you got in a good position and just held it wide open for a few miles

The "true" measure of advantage or disavantage to performance at that allitude will be when these machines run again on Bonneville :)

Makes you wonder if salt conditions and traction are overcoming lower horsepower numbers even more than reduced air resistance.

Nick said he thought the salt was harder and provided better traction than Bonneville... I'm headed there in July... I expect to see white hard salt like we had at Bonneville years ago before the strip mining took it's toll.

I think it is harder than Bonneville ever was, and Gardiner too ,  huge crystals and slow forming due to the conditions and i expect the content is different too

Greg, would it be right to assume that due to the consistent cool (read cold) conditions at that altitude, the salt is uummmm :? not as soft(grain'ie) across the surface as a much warmer Bonneville or Gairdner is ??
