Speed Week 2020
« on: August 11, 2020, 07:59:50 AM »
Ralph Hudson qualified on a APS-BF 650cc with a 248mph flying mile speed!  The backup pass was slower, but new record is 235. Not too bad for a 650!  Congrats Ralph  :thumb:

Stainless is there with his turbo Busa-engined lakester, freshly rebuilt. Good luck Bob.

Others too, I'm just combing through the log sheets. The salt seems to be 'OK' as far as I can tell.

252 should be correct as he ran a 248 earlier in the meet, He has now run a 268 which I would think is on the 1000 but with Ralph anything is possible. WTG Ralph   :trb:      LSL

Ralph Hudson 268.940mph at the 1 mile timers, "on salt" that's a mighty impressive speed at that stage of the course, unfortunately he had slowed to 225 by the 3

BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS, Utah, Aug. 14, 2020 (Gephardt Daily)  A 69-year-old motorcycle racer trying to set a record at Bonneville Salt Flats crashed Friday morning while traveling at about 252 mph.

Ralph Hudson, a veteran racer, crashed at about 8:20 a.m., according to a statement from the SCTA Southern California Timing Association.

Veteran rider Ralph Hudson, age 69, lost control of his motorcycle land speed vehicle, it says. He was attempting a speed record and was traveling approximately 252 mph. Ralph was treated by medical professionals at the scene and transported by ambulance to Life Flight and flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Officer Matt Gochis, Utah Bureau of Land Management, told Gephardt Daily that the victim was critically injured in the crash.

A helicopter met him about 10 minutes ago, Gochis said at about 10:25 a.m. MST. He was in critical condition when he left the ground.

Gochis noted that vehicles do not race each other simultaneously during the Speedweek event, where Hudson and his team were. They try to beat established records in solo races.

Gochis said no one else was injured in the accident.

Wishing you well Ralph you are a true gentleman.
Have a Harley, spent lots of money on it, thought I had a fast motorcycle, bought a Busa, realized all I had was a fast Harley, not a fast motorcycle!

Some encouraging news from the SCTA:

"We have an update on Ralph Hudson from his son David.
Ralph is in the hospital as he continues to recover from injuries suffered in the crash at Bonneville on Friday. He arrived at the hospital in serious condition but has stabilized over the last two days. Doctors will continue to monitor the situation closely and we hope for continued improvement in the days ahead.
Thank you to everyone who has shared their well-wishes and offered support, and we hope to share more positive news soon."
