06 busa running rich HELP!!
« on: November 30, 2022, 04:08:15 PM »
Hi guys and gals, any help right now will definitely help with keeping me out of the loony bin.

I have an 06 busa that has had minimal riding over the last 5 years.
Was running great until a month ago, it started dropping a couple of cylinders and wouldn't idle.

So far I have checked coils (if anyone could suggest a full proof way that would be great)
New plugs (iridiums)
Cleaned the fuel pump and filters and changed the regulator.
Fitted new injectors but it ran worse so new seals on the old injectors and refit them.
Fps is set correctly.
I've retro fit new hoses and added a fuel pressure gage which upon engaging the key springs up to around
50psi and after the regulator trips settles at around 40.
Upon starting the engine the pressure sits at a constant 50
She's running very rough under 4 and fouling plus and is exhausting black smoke.
Over 4k it's running on 4 pots but I feel it's down on power.
I've switched injectors around, coils around and nothing that happens appears to make any sense.
I'm now thinking faulty sensors or something in the ecu but if anyone has suggestions
Or can help in anyway I would be so appreciative.

Throttle position sensor or map sensor could be suspect. Check the lines to the map sensor too. They may have a leak.

Yep brand new fuel, brand new air filter, no codes.
I will try the tps but it seems to be set correctly and responds to the test.
I'm thinking map sensor or crank position sensor which is a whole new level of learning for me.
Thanks for the replies guys I appreciate it 😊

Its been a long time since I checked stock fuel pressure.... but I was thinking 39-41 engine running... not 50.... 50 would deliver about 25% more fuel at idle.  I think that could be your issue...
Someone that looks at stock stuff should chime in here....

Yea I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the pressures I mentioned earlier are after the new fitment.
Well worth looking further into though thanks.

Also I haven't checked the valve clearances so that is on the new list of things to try. Thanks

42.5 lbs is stock. This could be the fix. 😁

I’ll bet that’s it (the fp). It should be 42.5.

The difference between 42.5 and 50 psi of fuel pressure is only 5-6% more fuel.  Also could be the air pressure sensor that attaches to the airbox, if you unplug the vaccum line to it, then the whole idle/low throttle map gets way off (rich).
