Chassis Lubrication???
« on: January 01, 2003, 09:43:00 PM »
How often do you guys lubricate your chassis?  Things such as greasing the wheel bearings, rear shock pivot, swingarm pivot, head bearings...etc.  I have 2 years on the machine now and it's been run in the rain several times.  Opinions?

I don't think too many people get around to greasing everything on their bikes. It should be done more often though. I was surprised how little grease there was in my rear suspension linkage when I installed my lowering links. Most new bikes are bad for this. A buddy of mine buys a different new bike every couple years and he goes right through them and says there is hardly any grease in any of them. It might not be a bad idea to check yours. Even though you have run it in the rain several times, they are sealed pretty good.

If you wash your bike with a high-pressure wash, then grease it often, as the high-pressure will wash the grease out.

Otherwise, grease at the first opportunity, then once a year afterwards.

So what do you grease once a year?

Once a year is fine IF!!!!!
1. you don't ride in the rain
2. you don't pressure wash it
3. or you use a grease that DOESN'T wash out. And there is only about 2 that don't.
