I have to agree with you. Thats why you should go 8.0's in 4 gears on motor first and get use to the bike then slowly add NOS 7.80, 7.60, etc etc...

it's getting to be the down time of year for all of us up north. I polished my bike up last year at this time. I received my ambition from looking at all of the other polished bikes and have ressurected this post to help influence others to do the same this winter.

It's been a full year of the polished look and I can honestly say that the aluminum hasn't been that hard to care for. I touch up with two coats of blue magic every three of four weeks.
these pics were taken late in the summer and you can see that the shine has held up nicely.

I don't think that I will be doing any more cosmetic mods this winter. I'm focusing on the inside of the motor this year

Ed,
your bike was my inspiration last year. This was the first time I ever polished anything.
anyone can do it with a little time and patience.

Nice looking however up in the NW I am afraid that it would be way to much maintence with the rain and all...so I stay away from polishing.

The rain could be a bad thing but I try and not ride in it. I was real surprised that it wasn't real hard to keep up on.

Schweet ride, man! I've been thinking about polishing my frame but so far I've been able to talk myself out of it because of the maintainance it would require. Your comments on how easy it has been to maintain it are not helpin me resist it.

Looks like you done a great job.

I meant to ask, how did you smooth the textured part of the frame? Orbital sander?

Oh, and thanks for the comments on the frame upkeep. I'll probably end up doing it. Just gotta get my game plan together on it so I don't screw it up. That's an expensive piece of metal to screw up!

ding, ding, ding orbital sander is correct you stay out of trouble that way vs. a d/a
I started with 100 grit (after I stripped the anodizing)then 150,220,400,400 wet,600 wet then I finished with the compounds and wheels.
I'm happy with the results.

I love the big bird. I have a friend that has the gen 3 BDE and I don't much care for it. I don't like the finish on the ti-canister and the pipe is a little lower to the ground on the BDE then the HMF. The Big Bird sounds like no other PERIOD.
