Looks like a great find...   Had a 74 like new and sold it a few years ago. Loved the old bike.

Are you going to restore it??

The nice thing is that it has the old paint and emblems. The hardest thig to find.

it will be taken apart for cosmetic restoration only....and yes,you are right, most dont have a clue to the historical signifacance of the 73' Z1900....just imagine that the hottest ticket at the time being a honda cb750 with about 45 HP,...and then...WHAM!! kawi releases there 92 HP bone stock Z1....it changed everything....made everything before it obsolete...my brother seen it and said "thats just a junky old kz"

you are right about the pipes...they go for $500-$800 a set and take a year or two to find....a set brought about $600 on ebay last week but i hadnt closed the deal yet...oh well....and no...it will never be for sale

Yes, that bike WAS a milestone!  When it came out, we (The Harley Crowd) could hardly believe the performance specs, but they were real.  I do beg to differ on the HP though.  That bike produced 76 RWHP stock which was still far and above anything else out there.  I was friends with a fellow who shared a dealership back then and he showed me the invoices on their cost...about $1400 a copy, if memory serves.  Great bike!

THE KAWASAKI 900 Z1 SUPER FOUR. Originally destined to be a 750, the Z1 was beaten to the market place by the HONDA CB750 in 1968. Kawasaki engineers, horrified at this well kept secret launch, returned to the drawing board and redesigned the bike to be bigger and better. In late 1972 the Z1 was introduced to the world and instantly became a best seller.
The 750 Z2 followed a few months later mainly sold in the Japanese home market, due to their agreed 750cc limit. The Z1 went on to become the basis of most of Kawasaki's models for many more years, changing the face of motorcycling forever. Never before had the average man had the chance to own the fastest, biggest, most technically advanced motorcycle in the world for so little money. The true age of affordable SUPERBIKES had arrived.

 1972-1973 Z1-900
FRAME NUMBER: Z1F-000001 >
ENGINE NUMBER: Z1E-000001 >
COLOUR: CANDY ORANGE/BROWN OR CANDY YELLOW/GREEN FOUR CYLINDER, FOUR STROKE, FOUR EXHAUSTS, FOUR CARBS, DOUBLE OVERHEAD CAMSHAFT, FIVE SPEED GEARBOX, 903 CC PRODUCING 82 BHP
This was the first of the Z-range, the first true SUPERBIKE of the seventies. The biggest and best ever motorcycle that the Japanese had produced. THE KING OF THE ROAD.

The amazing thing is, that bike remained the King of performance for several years....in fact, it was finally dethroned by the KZ1000, I believe.

That bike is sweet, brings back plenty fond memories, I owned a 74, and also a 77 kz1000. Although seeing those 28mm carbs on the old z1 did bring back some bad tuning memories.

That is the bike that got me hooked. My Dad had one as I was growing up, he used to leave the house all slow and quiet till he got a couple blocks away and then the sound that will forever make me happy. He never told us what it was till I found out on my own 2 weeks after he sold it to a guy who wrapped it around a pole. Great find and my favorite color combination as well.
