How many miles on a stroker
« on: April 30, 2003, 08:24:00 AM »
I am wondering how many miles you guys are getting out of a stroker? I am thinking about building one. But my bike sees a lot of street miles.  how many miles you got.  Has anyone tried to build a "low compression" 1507?  say 10 or 11-1
would it help rod bearings live?  I think the torqe for street use would be nice

I put 6,000 miles on a 1471cc motor with 13.5:1  CR.

It lived just fine (tho' a bitch to start without 24v) until I was caught short of fuel in the middle of nowhere and had to use some low octane stuff.   I suffered some detonation which mullered the heas gasket between the bores and a couple of bearings plus valve seats.

The motor still ran fine, but lost a little power at the top, the low end and midrange were still awesome.

I've rebuilt it to 1507 this time.  The crank was fine.   New shells and valve seats.

Oh, a lot of that 6,000 miles were top end runs, 1/4s, sprints, hill climbs, 150+ dyno runs to develope Motec ECU.

NOS,

Thousands of hard miles(and 100's of passes) on customers bikes after tweaks. See my response to "strokers".

Detonation will destroy rod brgs no matter what. If you are lean up top.....you can guess the rest.

FYI The fuel map for a stocker. is very lean compared to an 84mm map. Your numbers in the 100% high rpm column is easily in the double digits for a 1397....but not a stocker.

I am just gonna PROPERLY reassemble the motor for this season. Maybe stroke it this winter. I don't mind rebearing the motor every winter if thats what it will take to avoid problems during the year
