4 passes on a new motor WTF
« on: September 10, 2003, 04:02:00 PM »
I made 4 passes on a new motor and bent the intake valves. I installed a JE 1397 and a FMS .385 intake cam with a stock intake on the exhaust side. I degree them in at 107 intake and 105 exhaust. I thougth is was a safe starting point. I put a 150 miles of street riding before I had it dyno tuned. It made a 192 hp and 111 ft. lbs of torque. I went to the track and made 4 passes and sprayed the last one and messed the motor up. What should I have set the intake at? Tearing it apart now but any help before I put it back together this time would be nice.

Check the valve/piston clearance with Pladoh or modeling clay - should probably have thirty five thou or so clearance - minimum. Make sure the cutouts in the pistons match the valve head.  Don't put pistons in backwards.

stock springs?!?! I bet they floated
Nitrous makes the motor spin up so quickly.

I sprayed my stock motor (100 shot wet) with two intake cams for a year and half with no problems , so I thought I could get away with it.
